Keegan Daniel has been suspended for two weeks following a guilty verdict in his disciplinary hearing.
Daniel was cited after the Sharks’ match against the Brumbies this weekend for a late and dangerous tackle on Christian Lealiifano. The suspension will effectively only rule him out for one match, since the Sharks have a bye this coming weekend.
The following week’s match against the Bulls in Durban will see the SHarks having to dig deep, with neither Daniel nor Ryan Kankowski available.

Hopefully Botes is back then. 6.Botes 7.Deysel 8.Alberts and 19.Coetzee.
How’s Adonga’s progress coming along?? Has similar skills to both Kanko and Daniel but not at the same level.
Botes hasn’t impressed me this year and he’s still injured? Can’t have 3 loose forwards that offer you the same thing…Deysel, Coetzee and Alberts…might work against the Bulls though!
why can’t he also get just 1 week gee if one can get it right why can’t we
ok now i get it its because we are Sharks
Can someone please tell me if this was justified or are we being nailed again. Missed it in the game. I see punches and spear tackles all over the show but no one gets suspended. Daniels infringement must have been massive then?
Seriosly? WTF, wheres the consistency?
Ag crap!
If Botes is out i would go for Francois Kleinhans, but i think he hurt his ankle and he might be tied down by the U/20 Bok commitments. Give Coetzee the 6 jumper and hope Deysel and Bissie can do some fetching.
Why all the moaning? The suspensions have been pretty healthy all season we can’t complain about 2 weeks.
i call it being nailed again
@JJR (Comment 8) : From left field but how about Burden at 6? *ducks*
Just gives Coetzee another go, not worried. I get worried when Guys like Deysel and Alberts are not available…they impossible to replace.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 9) : well we can feel agrieved if one takes the dirty play of the stormers against us KSA
first 10 min flo eye gouging on jannie
lambie hitting far off the ball with a stiff arm by cj , smitty and beast and jannie punched??
thats besides the shoulder charge by schalk and the over the top land on bissies necy by schalk too
@billy (Comment 11) : I actually suggested that last year already. He’s fast, strong and has a low center of gravity like Brussow…..
Coetzee looked quite good when he came on – let’s give him a try. Though immediately into starting XV always risky, especially against the Bulls.
@sharks_lover (Comment 13) : Don’t forget Elstadt’s tackle on Oupa
@billy (Comment 11) : It Crossed my mind; but because he does not really fetch, i would rather go for Coetzee. He has pace and can do as much work as keegan can.
@billy (Comment 11) : some might laugh but that would actually work too
so bissy can cover flaNK and hooker from the bench and coetzee 8
@rekinek (Comment 15) : I think he was a Bull Supporter in his younger days; i think that would motivate him to smash em even more!!!!
@JJR (Comment 19) :
the man has some baggage.
@JJR (Comment 17) : The Sharks haven’t played a fetcher at all so far this year TBH…I would play Coetzee if he is needed.
@Pokkel (Comment 21) : Ja, okay Agree. Hope Francois Kleinhans gets a go in the CC, can fetch and has played 8, so we know he can run too.
@sharks_lover (Comment 13) : man up! and stop whining, this is rugby!
@billy (Comment 6) : From what I have heard (as i have not seen this) it was similar to the hit of SBW on Kanko…and their was not even a citing in that case…nor in the hit of SBW on James O’Connor…
These things pizz me off!
Why cant the citing people and officers be the same people all the time – a hearing can be held via video conference…we have the technology – why use different people for different games – you are bound to get inconsistency then.
@Megatron (Comment 23) : run along transie megatroll
On a different note, I see Os du Randt is off to Ireland to join their RWC management team. Pity, I rated him as a forwards coach here.
@Ice (Comment 24) : exACTLY aunty ysblokkie
@Caratacus (Comment 26) : There is hardly place for our old hero’s in SA – just look at the cricket too…Gary Kirsten winning a CWC for India nogals…priorities…
@sharks_lover (Comment 27) : I speaks vi troef!
@Ice (Comment 29) : and vats a feit like a kooi
@Ice (Comment 29) : hoe gaan got met mooie tannie ysie en gesin??
@sharks_lover (Comment 13) : And don’t forget 20years ago when one of the reserves looked at one of our players a bit strangely.
@Ice (Comment 24) : As long as you don’t claim we are being targeted as some are claiming.
Michael Katzenellenbogen (sp) was the citing official for the game. He is a staunch Shark supporter and ex Dbn referee.
@sharks_lover (Comment 13) : Is Flo still up to that nonsense, he also gouged Jannie in last years pre season game…not good at all.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 33) : Maybe Katzenellenbogen is doing his job properly, and many others are’nt, it still creates the impression of inconsistency.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 33) :
I don’t think that we are being unfairly targeted, however, I do believe that the system is not fair, in that the same standards are not applied by different officials.
@Salmonoid (Comment 35) : guys like that may try harder not to be perceived as biased.
I like Ice’s idea of having the same guy or let’s say a panel of 3 (in case one catches a flu
to do citings.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 33) :
I agree. Keegan probably deserved the 2 weeks but then SBW should have at least received a similar sentence twice before.
I like Ice’s idea of one official or group of officials handling all citings!
@rekinek (Comment 37) :
Also agree on Ice’s suggestion.
Ice for Lady Rugga.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 32) :
@Pokkel (Comment 38) : I believe the off field officials in the UK match were non SANZAR guys, so some differences could be expected there.
Bottom line to me is that we like being the victims hopelessly too much
my problem is not that keegan was banned
he did the crime he should do the time
but the same does not apply for all the teams it seems
@Salmonoid (Comment 39) :
eish KSA so protective of the match officials etc
again i am sure all teams ask for is consistency and fairness
aussie 2 weeks ago gets off scot free for a bad spear tackle and last week the canes 9 got 4 weeks for same offence
@sharks_lover (Comment 42) : It’s our 1st citing and banning of the season and until a few weeks ago we hadn’t even received a YC.
I hardly think we played 11 games and have only comitted one punishable offence.
@sharks_lover (Comment 44) : Well the aussie got off because he was the wrong guy that got cited.
I would have hoped they would have let him get off, you could hardly expect them to punish the innocent guy.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 46) : There is such a thing as an innocent Aussie?
KSA – I am asking – Like Billy, Sammy et al, for consistency. If Keegan got cited and suspended – same should have applied to SBW. Therefor my suggestion of one panel to do all citings and hearing. At least you would get the same outcome.
I guess its very similar to us complaining about referees “getting a call wrong” or interpreting teh laws differently…
@Ice (Comment 48) : I agree with you Ice. Would like to see one panel doing all the citings.
If they are going to try burden he should just get his cross defense in check,because I can remember a game he did came on as a flanker and there was a gap exposed because of the defense or something.
Honey badger u beat me to it was just about to say that, the game was CC against the Bulls at Loftus when they came from behind to win it
@Ice (Comment 48) : @Ice (Comment 48) : SBW is Untouchable!
On a serious note, would Botes be available or will we be stuck without a fetcher now?
Screw the commission for blatantly being inconsistent and not giving a flying feather (took a lot to restrain myself here) for SA players.
What twats they are.
Keegs always performs against the Nulle!
@Original Pierre (Comment 52) :
The Sharks haven’t played a fetcher in a very long time
@Original Pierre (Comment 52) : Botes should be available for the Bulls game… he came close o being fit for the Brumbies.
@Pokkel (Comment 54) : My mistake, I thought Keegan did the job for us.
Thanx Rob. I feel better already!
Keegan is a very aggressive player, he is that way to make up for his lack of size. The problem is that his tackles always look like he is out of control, which gives the impression he is playing dangerously. Whether this is fact or not, the impression that the referees get is that he is out of control, which, unfortunately makes him a target of the officials.
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 51) : Sorry,you also knew more about the subject then me.
@sharks_lover (Comment 25) :
@sharks_lover (Comment 42) : Amen
