Return of the Big Gun

The Stormers team to face the chiefs has been announced, and many Stormers supporters will be thrilled to see the return of Peter Grant, who will hopefully provide some consistency with the boot, while we have seen Lionel Cronje provide some solid attacking ball to the backs with a good few tries being scored with him in the 10 jumper, hopefully Grant will be able to carry on with that trend.

It looks like Allister Coetzee is trying a little (super little) rotation in the squad and has given Ricky Januarie the opportunity to start, we also see the return of Brok Harris to the front row with CJ van der Linde being ruled out due to injury, and the young ginger, Steven Kitshoff, coming onto the bench . The news of Koster also being ruled out and the Stormers not taking any extra looseforward cover, means that Coetzee has had to choose 2 locks on the bench, which means we can assume that Elstadt will move to loose forward (his preferred position) if needed. Also Bryan Habana makes a return from a rib injury which forces the promising talent of Johann Sadie, who was very exciting against the Crusaders last week, out of the 22 altogether.

No Ruan Pienaar on the bench just yet either.

1. Wicus Blaauw
2. Deon Fourie
3. Brok Harris
4. Rynhardt Elstadt
5. Andries Bekker
6. Schalk Burger (C)
7. Francois Louw
8. Duane Vermeulen
9. Ricky Januarie
10. Peter Grant
11. Bryan Habana
12. Jean De Villiers
13. Jaque Fourie
14. Gio Aplon
15. Conrad Jantjes

Reserves:
Tiaan Liebenberg, Steven Kitshoff, De Kock Steenkamp, Anton Van Zyl, Dewaldt Duvenage, Lionel Cronje, Juan De Jongh

  • This is a VERY good team.

Lets hope Ricky performs as well as he did in 2008 and prior to that. Damn its been ages since he was at his best.

What I would do to have an above average scrumhalf in our squad.

  • @Ben (Comment 26) : I’m not sure why, but it seems Whitehead has fallen out of favour with WP, he was playing Varsity Cup while the Vodacom cup was on, I think. They seem to prefer Bosch, which is a real pity, I liked the small bits I saw of Whitehead.

  • Hope the young Paul Roos Fattie Kitshoff get some time. Sadie and Cronje sure deserved another change to start. This wont be good for their confidense. Anyway we’ll need to play the structures here. We cant afford the Chiefs back three to get any ball, 1st phase domination the key for us.
