Oddie, Jannie ruled out

Odwa Ndungane and Jannie du Plessis have both been ruled out for the next month, according to reports. The pair picked up serious injuries during Saturday’s nightmare loss against the Bulls in Durban.

Ndungane broke his hand during the first half of the match, but opted to play on regardless and now faces an operation to repair the damage. Du Plessis’s injury is a partial knee ligament tear which will also keep him on the sidelines for at least four weeks,

A third Springbok, centre Adrian Jacobs, is also in doubt having picked up an ankle injury. He will need to pass a alte fitness test in order to be considered for the match against the Waratahs this weekend.

For the Sharks, there was a slight bit of good news, with John Smit returning to the fray ahead of the Tahs clash. The loss of du Plessis may well mean that Wiehahn Herbst is brought into the squad, though, unless the plan is to use Smit as an emergency tight head option. Ndungane’s injury will open the door for Lwazi Mvovo to start again, but Jacobs will not be easily replaced, with the Sharks already woefully short of creative options in midfield.

  • My money is on Hoffmann and Potgieter on the bench, with five forwards.

Unless Plum calls up Mark Richards, but I doubt that would happen.

  • is the sharks depth really that thin? who would the sharks field if they were afflicted by injuries like the stormers were last week where they had to play with duvenage @ 10?

who is the sharks 3rd choice FH?

Between van Staden, Herbst and John they will find a tighthead plus a reserve..

Mostert or Hargreaves benching for the lock, Mostert can even cover flank..

    Marcell Coetzee as eighthman..

We could even see Burden cover more than hooker.

Would you have three backs Rob?

  • Wanne use this space to give some feedback on line out: Ice Ice: ok mathematical the stats of 18/3 is correct, but an line out is an set piece according to me and the stat guru counted even the quick trou-ins, so according to my count we had about 13 set piece line out. 3 were lost(ball did not go to hand) another 4 times the ball was secondary lost, because the ball was not caught clean and distributed properly we lost the ball at first resever and I count them as losses too. So that’s more than half set piece line outs lost. The 3 total lost line out were 2 on attack within the 22 of th bulls, big loss of opportunity’s and the other one was on defence within our 22 and that resulted in 7 points for the bulls. IMO we are struggling and need to address this issue.

look at the crusaders, they’ve had to draft fringe players that are not even starters in the ITM cup team, the sharks have been relatively lucky with injuries.
