Coetzee opts to rest key players

Alistair Coetzee has put together a backline despite all the injury concerns around scrumhalf and flyhalf, and has announced his team to face the Rebels this weekend in Melbourne.

Ricky Januarie will be in the scrumhalf position with Kurt Coleman getting his second shot at Super Rugby playing in the all important flyhalf position. The centre combination has also been boosted by the return to the starting team for Jean de Villiers, who played off the bench last weekend against the Brumbies.

The coach has decided to rest a few key players in Andries Bekker and Deon Fourie, who have been replaced by Anton van Zyl and Tiaan Liebenberg. Emergency cover Earl Rose has made his way onto the bench for this game.

With Dewaldt Duvenhage ruled out and Januarie making the starting team, third choice scrumhalf Louis Schreuder has been included on the bench.

Stormers: 15. Conrad Jantjes,14. Gio Aplon ,13. Jaque Fourie,12. Jean de Villiers,11. Bryan Habana ,10. Kurt Coleman,9. Ricky Januarie ,8. Duane Vermeulen ,7. Francois Louw,6. Schalk Burger (C),5. Anton van Zyl,4. Rynhardt Elstadt ,3. Brok Harris,2. Tiaan Liebenberg,1. Wicus Blaauw

Reserves: 16. Deon Fourie,17. Frans Malherbe,18. Andries Bekker,19. Nick Koster,20. Louis Schreuder ,21. Earl Rose ,22. Juan de Jongh

  • @wpw (Comment 2) : I`d be more worried about your second choice at scrumhalf than your third

But come on: Give Earl Rose at least 30 minutes this weekend!

He needs to start somewhere
