Our man on the scene, Seth Anderson, writes his first report on Hilton College’s rugby day against St Albans this past weekend. Well done Seth, we hope to see your name on here more often.

The schools fixture between Hilton College and St Albans saw Hilton Taking the lead even before the kick off of the 1st team as Hilton won all of the open fixtures with the scores hugely one sided:

5th team – Hilton 59-0 St Albans
4th team – Hilton 58-0 St Albans
3rd team – Hilton 58-7 St Albans
2nd team – Hilton 46-3 St Albans

The 1st team followed the same trend as Tom Hattingh(2), Calvin Smith, Chris De beer, Ross Bartlett all scoring for Hilton in the 1st half, Jonathan Hugo managed to convert all 5 tries.

The 2nd half started off much the same way with two fast tries scored by Jonathan Hugo and Tom Hattingh. St Albans made an attempt at a come back with their flank, Dean Reid scoring two tries but the scrum-half, L. Afrika (who happens to be related to Cecil Afrika) only managed to convert one. This was the last time St Albans managed to score as Hilton’s Chris de Beer crossed the line for the 8th and final try of the game with Jonathan Hugo missing his last kick of the match, the end score was 54-12.

  • I can’t begin to quantify how outstanding a result this is for Hilton.
Here are some of St Albans results which suggest that this should have been a game that went down to the wire.

    St Albans 43 – 38 St Johns
St Albans 22 – 36 Durban Boys High
    St Albans 17 – 18 St Andrews
    St Albans 15 – 50 KES
    St Albans 31 – 23 Trinity
    St Albans 25 – 5 St Benedict’s
