Welcome to the Windhoek Lager Team of the Week. We have decided to make it an all South African team and base it only on the weekend matches. So if your favourite player did not play on the weekend, he will not be in the team.

Thanks must go to Windhoek Lager for sponsoring this weekly Team. We will have a Team of the Year competition at the end of the season, so make sure to take note of certain players who consistently make the team.

Error, Ad (ID: 47) is expired or does not exist!

1. Dean Greyling – The best of the worst on this occasion, with no real looseheads standing out. Greyling managed against a strong Waratahs outfit and came out tops.

2. Bismarck du Plessis – Did in forty minutes what no other hooker could do in the full eighty, and that is impress us. Bismarck showed moments of brilliance, he just needs to work on doing it for the entire game.

3. Werner Kruger – Stood out in the Bulls front row, again against a strong Waratahs front row. Eugene van Staden needs to be mentioned here for a good performance, making Coenie his bitch.

4. Wikus van Heerden – A second good game in a row for the Lions veteran, starting to come into some of the form we know he is capable of.

5. Victor Matfield – Had a good game and lead his team from the front. Once again, his lineout play was fantastic.

6. Schalk Burger – Burger is in great form at the moment, peaking at just the right time for all South Africans dreaming of World Cup success later this year.

7. Ashley Johnson – Storming game from the big haired loosie, proving he can play off the side or off the back of the scrum. Coming into great form at this stage of the season.

8. Davon Raubenheimer – Another strong outing from this somewhat unknown player, making the most of the time he has in the starting lineup at the Cheetahs. Duane Vermeulen deserves mention for a good game against the Rebels.

9. Francois Hougaard – Another player making the most of his opportunity at game in his preferred position. If only the Sharks had a scrumhalf with such speed and flair.

10. Morne Steyn – The old cliché comes to the fore, form is temporary and class is permanent, and Steyn’s class is showing towards the back end of a very long season. Not the flashiest player, but consistent and solid.

11. Bryan Habana – Even though the opposition was the lowly Rebels, a Rebels team that at the very same ground gave the Sharks a scare, Habana looked good and is getting his confidence back. Improving week on week.

12. Meyer Bosman – Who would have thought that a Sharks centre would ever make the team of the week, but you cannot argue that Bosman had a good game, making tackle after tackle! Seems set on proving his critics wrong.

13. Rob Ebersohn – Showed Stef exactly what an outside centre should do and how to run supporting lines and be creative. A certain future star in the making.

14. Riaan Viljoen – This was a real tough call, and even though JP Pietersen scored a good try, Riaan Viljoen was just better, and considering he is a fullback playing on the wing, was real impressive.

15. Jaco Taute – Scored two great tries for the Lions and injected the necessary pace from the back. He just needs to work on his defence to be well rounded.

A BIG thank you to Fattmann who submitted a team and Molly, wpw, Rob and Villie for their incredible insight in selecting this team.

  • Its great to see Wikus getting form back, he is a quality player and really was a great buy for the Lions.

When Smith and Brussouw get back to full fitness the Cheetahs are going to have an insane loose trio. Add to that the creative backline that is getting better with each game and you have serious CC contenders. Who is the Cheetahs backs coach? He deserves a major credit for their revival.

As one of his biggest critics, I will agree that Bosman had a cracker game, we will need more of the same against Butch this weekend.

Taute for me is one of the youngsters that in the next year or two should be in the bok squad.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 3) : In that case it has to go to Mvovo due quality of opposition and value the try had in the result of the game.

  • I’m assuming the Bulls props got in on the basis of their play in the loose? As there were uncontested scrums for a long period of time!

  • Mvovo’s try was great. As was the Stormers try that involved Fourie (hooker) breaking out, handling by Bekker and I’m not sure who finished it off…JDV?
