Waratahs flyhalf / inside centre Berrick Barnes has called time on his 2011 Super Rugby season following multiple concussions sustained during the season and after being diagnosed with Footballers’ Migraine.

Barnes had to leave the field of play against the Highlanders following a severe migraine which had him being sick in the background, and has subsequently taken an indefinite leave of absence from the game.

He has not ruled out playing for the Wallabies in the Tri Nations and during the World Cup later this year, but will take things as they come and decide whether his health allows him to play the game at the level that he wants to.

We would like to wish Berrick all the best and that he gets back on the park in no time.

  • It’s probably best if he stops playing altogether unless he thinks rugby is more important than his health.

  • @Viking (Comment 6) : Scrum pets don’t help protect the brain, just like headgear does not help boxers brains.
    It just prevents superficial damage.
