The Baby Boks take on Ireland in their second match of the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship which takes place in Treviso tonight, with kick off at 20h10 South African time, which will be televised on SuperSport.
The team sees nine changes from the squad that faced Scotland in the opening game of the tournament, which the Boks won 33 – 0. This is expected as the matches are quite close together and this gives all the members of the squad a chance to get some game time. The strongest possible match 22 will be required when they face England in the last of their pool matches.
The Natal interest in the backline, Paul Jordaan, has been demoted to the bench to allow Bradley Moolman a chance to play at outside centre, while Nic Schonert also sees himself on the bench. Ex-Glenwood boy John Roy Jenkinson gets to start this match after coming from the bench in the game against Scotland.
We wish the team all the best for their match tonight.
South Africa – Ulrich Beyers, Courtnall Skosan, Bradley Moolman, Francois Venter, Wandile Mjekevu, Johan Goosen, Lohan Jacobs, Arno Botha (c), Cornell du Preez, Nizaam Carr, Eben Etzebeth, Ruan Venter, John Roy Jenkinson, Micheal van Vuuren, Stephan Kotze.
Replacements: Bongi Mbonambi, Nic Schonert, Jean Cook, Siyamthanda Kolisi, Pieter Rademan, John Welthagen, Paul Jordaan

can’t wait to see Jorries Jordaan rip them a new one when he comes on in the second half… hopefully in place of Wynand Venter
Always good and entertaining to see Johan Goosen at no 10..still love to see him in black and white.
Go Bokke!
@robdylan (Comment 1) : Wynand?
good evening all
just for those that might not have heard??
LIons FB has been called up to the Bok under20 team
i think paul is being given a raw deal here
and for those that dont know , all 3 sharks players in the squad are either benched or dropped
Jaco Taute has been called up and will be with the squad in the next day or so.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 8) : yup hiyas KSA
what was you thoughts on the sharks players in the team last week?
me personally , i think at TH Schonert was brilliant , extremely strong chap
Kleinhans at 6 i thought too had a brilliant match making big tackles and winning a few balls
at 13 i thought Paul Jordaan was unlucky as every move he either got skipped or the inside players cut inwards, thus all he could do was tackle tackle and tackle
What happened to the golden boy at outside centre Piet Lindeque can’t he make the step up
seems like his partner from grey college francois venter is making the step up faster than him…in fact i would not be surprised if venter is playing currie cup this year that’s how much heynek meyer rates him….guys cool down with the paul jordaan hype he is still a kid he was average last friday stop making excuses guys he looked lost hehehehehhe
Cheers
If carr has a good game kleinhans will find himself holding tackle bags the whole world cup
let’s see what the all bulls backline can do tonight

@Muzi (Comment 12) : and you know im right hehehe, jordaan had no chances man , kleinhans had a fine match , and schonert shoved the poor scottsmans head up his proverbial butt
Will watch this game later. See Jordaan is on the bench. Pity, would liked to have seen him have another game.
@sharks_lover (Comment 10) : Agree, the inside centre and fh played as if Jordaan was not even on the field. He got skipped most of the time. Now was hoping he would get another chance, not to be, see he is on the bench. Pity.
@Puma (Comment 15) : did you watch schonert?? hell his back dead straight as he scrummed that scottsman into the grown
The jocks giving the poms a decent game so far.

@sharks_lover (Comment 16) : Yes I did. Now wonder why he is also on the bench? You think this coach just not taking Ireland serious, trying others out? I would have kept a settled team that beat the Scots.
Anyhow, we sure do have some good young talent coming through.
@McLovin (Comment 18) : Only really interested in watching our game, but reading that, NZ’s Baby Blacks must be very good again this year.
@Puma (Comment 20) : Haven’t seen much of them, but the scores so far suggest they’re the team to beat.
So far they have gone 16 games unbeaten at the junior champs over the last 3 or 4 tournaments.
@McLovin (Comment 21) : Well that says enough about them to know they are a very good side.
Will go and see if I can get the remote..hehe and have a look now. Better half watching something else right now though. So might have to wait my turn for our game…..hehehehe.

Scotland saved by a strange call from the ref.

Scotland get the ball back but knock on almost at the same ruck. England get the ball and with about 4 passes get it to the far side of the field and as they are about to score get called back for “No advantage, scrum Scotland for the 1st knock”

Well done Bokkies.
what a fantastic game! Eben etsebeth, nizaam carr, francois venter were MASSIVE!

Johan Goosen drop was something else, what an awesome talent that lad is..
@Megatron (Comment 123) : Agreed
@Ben (Comment 124) : Steady now Ben, you are making me a little concerned……..
@KSA Shark © (Comment 127) : Hehe he’s huge for such a young boy. 19 years
the game against england is going to a cracker!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 127) : And anyway, this coming from someone who posts half naked pics off Michalak!
@Ben (Comment 128) : 1st you mention his shoulders and now you mention he is still a young boy.
Well done baby bokke!!!!! I thought Zizaam Carr was fantastic at 6…Eben Etzebeth superb…goosen will eventually be our number 10 in the future brilliant talent…i thought ulrich beyers had a much better game he loves to counter attack unlike zane kirchner
his face went straight into the bush hehehe…..and francois venter had a good game i nearly broke my tv when we had an overlap and he decided to kick he is calss at 12….
hehehe was that a tackle by jordaan
Skosan was disapointing also the hooker Micheal van Vuuren is not better than mbonambi…i expect to see juan schoeman back at prop again…the front row struggled today…
England will be tought
@Ben (Comment 130) : He was completely naked.
@Megatron (Comment 123) : I agree with the first 2, Etzebeth and Carr were terrific. I thought du Preez had his moments. Jury still out on F. Venter. With the ball in hand, I’m still not convinced he makes the best decisions or has good lateral vision. I try to visualise Heimar Williams in place of Venter, getting the same good quality ball and I believe HW would have done a lot more for the team.
@Muzi (Comment 132) : Was laughing my ass off when Paul’s face ended up in the bush!
@KSA Shark © (Comment 133) :
Goosen’s 67m penalty against Paul Roos is on youtube if anyone is interested
@KSA Shark © (Comment 131) : There’s a good explanation for this. I’m a secret informant for Shaz and Ice!
@beet (Comment 134) : Venter is not very keen on passing. That’s the only issue i have with his play.
@Ben (Comment 135) : That Irish winger Conway was really good. I like the way the clubs coach up their backs to be illusive in close contact. Saw the same thing with the England u18 last year. If you can stay on your feet for just a second longer, it’s often the difference between another phase and a turnover.
To be fair to Paul, the try was already a certainty whether or not he made the tackle.
@beet (Comment 140) : I do agree, would have taken a huge monster tackle to save a try there.
@Ben (Comment 141) : But still he could have made a better effort.
@beet (Comment 140) : Paul Jordaan is actually much smaller than I thought he was, looks like the Sevens only make you look big. Even Bjorn Basson will look like a Jonah Lomu when playing Sevens!
@Ben (Comment 143) : Ya Ben, Branco and Cecil Afrika are tiny guys. They weight next to nothing and are less than 1.7m tall.
Paul isn’t that small (for his age) or that short. Brian o’Driscoll and Tim Horan are about the same dimensions as he’ll eventually be.
I see the bulls are after Johann Sadie very interesting with venter on the up we do not really need meisikind…watermeyer and dippernaar are in trouble
@beet (Comment 144) : That is why i am not a fan of sending talented centres to sevens after school look how long it took robert erbershon to finally step up..
@Muzi (Comment 145) : I’d like to see Venter tried at 13. Jaco Pretorius is getting a little long in the tooth.
What do you think of Watermeyer now that he’s back at 13, the position that made him a SBR legend?
@beet (Comment 147) : I heard from a good source at loftus that the bulls want to try watermeyer at 13 in the senior side that is where he played at waterkloof alongside brummer
Jaco Pretorius is a defence machine a total waste of space
@beet (Comment 144) : I know not necessarily small but looking at him playing sevens he looks more like someone in the region off 1.9m and 100kg’s.
@Muzi (Comment 146) : I agree Muzi. Once upon a time 7s was helpful to developing a young players passing, catching and awareness skills. Now the skills you learn there don’t seem to benefit you that much and you lose out on valuable 15 man rugby development time in the process.
Sadly my feeling remains that if you’re a good centre coming out of school, the best place you can go to is the WP
I also feel that some guys shouldn’t be fast-tracked. They will get there anyway. Just have to be more patient with some guys. Sias has had far less 1st class game time than Robert, but it’s not that noticeable. A guy like Coenie O has been thrown in the deep end. People expect him to be the best scrumager around, meanwhile a player like Julian White only reached his prime in his late 20s but was still regarded as one of the world’s best props for about 4 years from that point onwards.
@Ben (Comment 150) : I agree Ben. Big Frankie Horn is actually not so big.
@beet (Comment 152) : That’s the thing, comparing people like Paul to people like Frankie who isn’t really that big but he looks huge on the Telly.
@Muzi (Comment 148) : Now that you mention that 2nd rate Klofies player, when does our Francois Brummer vs Marnitz Boshoff battle commence.
I’m feeling good about this C/C. Marnitz will be hard at work with a kicking coach, while Brummer, like Gollum and his precious, will be looking for that thing he lost about 12 months ago. His FORM!!!
I totally agree with you beet that is why i wish the bulls could change the style of rugby they play…what is the use of contracting your grey college centres like william small smith…francois venter and christopher bosch who are used to playing running rugby….when they are put in the bulls system they do not step up..look at stepahn dippernaar great for the wp under 19′s rather average with the bulls
@beet (Comment 154) : Beet francois brummer has this currie cup to prove himself the bulls will give him one chane if he fails again then boshoff will replace him with immediacte effect…mr dunlop from your academy imho is on the verge of getting a bulls contract.
I’m off, have a good one all of you.
they should try Venter at 13 with Jordaan at 12…
Can’t help feeling they’re wasting Paul’s time a bit here… playing him out of position at13 , then sending him on at wing… Must say, though, I’ve seen little to suggest that he’s going to be a Currie Cup player in 2011, but perhaps that’s unfair given that he’s had zero game time in his regular position.
Wow, but that Nizam Carr is one hell of a player. Don’t think I’ve ever seen hands like that on a loose forward.
@beet (Comment 140) :
@Ben (Comment 141) :
It was about 6m from the tryline (probably more) and against the touchline and he just slipped off the guy’s back. A good tackle around the waist or upper legs would have seen the guy forced into touch. Instead he was like water on a duck’s back.
If we are to pay any attention to the hype around the guy then he should deliver.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 159) : problem was, Goosen went for the intercept, leavin Jordaan with at least 3 men to cover on his own
@robdylan (Comment 160) : Agreed, but Jordaan got there with enough time to perform the tackle he just didn’t perform it properly.
If he hadn’t got there I would have had no problem with that as he was marking more than 1 man and the overlap was huge, but he got there and then didn’t tackle.
Maybe I’m being a little harsh on the guy but if you are good enough to get there then use the oppertunity when you are there.
I must say that watching the bokkies play is really great. It is such good, clean and flowing rugby that you cant help but enjoy every second. Some stand out performances last night must include the play of Ulrich Beyers, Francois Venter, Arno Botha, Nizaam Carr and Eben Etzebeth. Watchout for these guys in the future. Especially Francois Venter. I quite enjoyed the way he played the last 2 games.
Its a pity they only played Paul Jordaan from the bench last night. I though he had a great game against Scotland on Friday. Did a lot of the hard work on defence and hit the rucks to slow down the ball. At age 19 he is something for the sharks to protect for the future.
Lastly, Hey these bokkies can scrum. Maybe they can come teach the sharks a thing or two about scrumming. Well done to Dawie Theron and his coaching team. They are doing a great job at the moment. Looking forward to the clash with England on Saturday.
@Viking (Comment 164) : Same here. I’ll be wearing green. That will be the pool decider.
