It was another busy weekend on the School Rugby front, with the big derby being Glenwood vs Westville, an intense game as always. The Green Machine walked away winners by 28 – 16. Other results over the weekend:

Glenwood 28 – 16 Westville
Michaelhouse 30 – 20 Hilton
Kearsney 22 – 8 St Charles
Hillcrest 17 – 3 Kloof

Thanks to Seth Anderson for the below report on the Michaelhouse vs Hilton match:

MHS’s 30-20 victory over Hilton College was full with controversy with some questionable calls by the ref, one of which was when a father had to run on to the field during play to inform the ref that he had allowed the game to run for 10 minutes with Hilton’s Mathew Delport lying injured on the MHS 22m. Hilton boys had to run across the field to alert the MHS First-aid as they had not noticed the injury either. Amazingly even after the father got the ref’s attention he allowed the game to continue for another 2 minutes before attending to the injured Hilton player who by then was surrounded by medical staff and parents. A car had to drive onto the field to pick up Delport and drive him off. The ref’s decision making was further questioned when he only played two minutes extra time even though the timer was allowed to tick down through out the whole ordeal. Beside this some superb rugby was played by both schools with the MHS back line structure ultimately winning the game with the 2011 games tied as both schools won their home games.

The Points Where as following:

Tries:

MHS
Simon Margesson (Wing)
Robert Anderson (Fly Half)
Austin Lockington (Fullback)

Hilton
Calvin Smith (Fullback)
Ross Bartlett (Outside centre)
Tom Hattingh (Wing)

Conversions:

MHS
Thys Albertse(Scrum half) 3/3

Hilton
Jonathan Hugo (Inside centre) 0/1
Jason Shield (Reserve Fly half) ½

Penalty Kicks:

Thys Albertse (Scrum half) 2/3

Hilton
Jason Shield (Reserve Fly half) 1/1

  • GREEN MACHINE!!!!

The schools top 20 should be interesting.

Westville were 30th last week so they will probably NOT feature this week.

    Answer: in Bloemfontein.
Glenwood have a terrible record on that ground.
Poisy, I would say your call is suicidal.
Can’t believe I owe you so much beer.

  • @Muzi (Comment 6) : Don’t forget to take a pen and paper. Also remember who you best buddy in KZN is once you find anything out.
I’ll never forget that I first learnt Paul Jordaan had been signed as a flyhalf by the Sharks from one of your posts last year.

Beet, I see you have a BlackBerry, I would like to add you at some point, when you have figured out the in’s and out’s.

I want to somehow get a KZN only ranking system going, but everything I have been working on has its flaws. Maybe we can brainstorm…

So Westville lost. Ah well: congrats Glenwood. Didn’t realise you had a twinning arrangement with Kroonstad though…
