Kolisi called upon by the Stormers

The DHL Stormers have requested that IRB Junior Championship looseforward Siya Kolisi be released from his duties in Italy to join up with the Stormers as cover for semi final to be played next weekend against either the Blues or the Waratahs.

After Duane Vermeulen was ruled out for six to eight weeks, the Stormers seem to be a little thin in the looseforward department, and has called upon the highly rated Kolisi. Kolisi had storming games against Ireland and Scotland in the first two pool games.

Kolisi will not be replaced by coach Dawie Theron, who feels that he has enough loose forwards in the squad.

  • This guy is a good prospect. I’m sure Sanzar will allow him to play since he was in their bigger squad and they have no more fit looseforwards.

  • so the reward for playing like utter traff for the Baby Boks is a Stormers call up? Nice precedent we’re setting :)

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : He really does look a decent player and a lacklustre team performance against England doesn’t change that. Besides, who else do they have as loosie cover?

  • @Megatron (Comment 6) : I’m not having a go at Taute because this article isn’t about him, mate.

I agree that he was awful. I also agree that Paul Jordaan was pretty close to awful all competition and that calls for him to be included in the Sharks starting lineup are somewhat premature :)

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) :

Well Schreuder was crap for the Baby Boks a year or so ago and he seems to have come along nicely since then.

    Same with Elton Jantjies!!

  • @wpw (Comment 8) : I thought Jantjies was average in Super Rugby too :)

And also not going to change my opinion of Louis S after one semi-decent outing :)

  • Kolisi was excellent in the first game and poor in the game against the Poms. However the whole side was pretty lacklustre against England. These are the only matches I’ve seen him play so will reserve judgement….but he does seem very promising. Also liked the look of Nizaam Carr.

  • @Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 12) : Agree Clayton. You can’t write a player off after one poor performance. He looks a dynamic player…all action type of loosie. Excited to see how he develops.

  • @robdylan (Comment 14) : there’s no irony, siya played in the NeoAfrica Cup (warm up matches) against the Sharks & Lions. with Vermuelen gone he is the COVER! the fact that he had a bad game against England is irrelevant! you were just being snide, it’s ok :D

  • @Muzi (Comment 16) : i agree, i think the bulls will have to cut their losses when it comes to skosan, he is rubbish both on attack & defence

as for jordaan, the should cut all the bushes around the stadium to prevent him from going in face first…

  • Yeah, what Mega said, Siya was part of the Stormers systems all year and played in that Neo thingy (where he impressed).

Still wondering what happened to Yaya Hartzenberg because as talented as Siya is, he aint the biggest lad around.
