Sharks lock Alistair Hargreaves has been promoted to the Bok starting lineup for Saturday’s Tri-Nations opener against the Wallabies.

Former provincial team mate Johann Muller has been withdrawn from the side, after his hamstring injury failed to heal quickly enough, handing the former DHS boy his first test start in the number 5 jersey. Hargreaves has represented the Boks in a handful of tests as a replacement.

Another Sharks forward in Ryan Kankowski will also benefit, with the big loosie added to the bench in Hargreaves’ spot. Danie Rossouw, named to start at flank, will no doubt move to lock later in the game, with two loose forwards on the bench in Kankowski and Jean Deysel.

Revised Bok 22:
15 Aplon 14 Basson 13 de Jongh 12 Olivier 11 Mvovo 10 Steyn 9 Pienaar 8 Johnson 7 Rossouw 6 Stegmann 5 Hargreaves 4 van der Merwe 3 Kruger 2 Smit (capt) 1 Greyling
16 Ralepelle, 17 van der Linde, 18 Kankowski, 19 Deysel, 20 McLeod, 21 Jacobs, 22 Lambie

  • I believe the Greeks, Cheats and Cows teams has been announced. Not sure about the Weeps but the team might be up as well. Sorry about the alternative naming of the teams but certain buttons doesn’t seem to be working so nicely this morning.

  • This just proves how close Mossie is/was to a Bok cap. He may have been a regular on the Bok bench by next year if he’d decided to stay on.

  • Can’t believe how much abuse Hargreaves is getting on other sites. People moaning about him not being physical enough and then suggesting that Danie should have been moved to lock. I guess they don’t know that Hargo is a number 5 lock and Danie a number 4. With Muller out injured it’s a like for like change and doesn’t disrupt the team that much!

  • PdV should never have taken a injured Muller. Should have gone with Mostert.

Anyhow that is in the past.

    Good luck Boks.

  • well done Al. Though I think Muller would be much better. Fortunately Flip is a “heavy” lock.
