Blue Bulls coach Pine Pienaar has named an unchanged starting fifteen for the third week running as his charges prepare to take on Western Province in Cape Town this weekend.

Gary Botha again captains the side from hooker, while rookie props Corne Fourie and Rossouw de Klerk will want to build on a far stronger showing against the Cheetahs last week. Both players were hugely disappointing at scrum time against the Sharks in week 1.

Flyhalf Francois Brummer was another who raised his game at Loftus after going missing at Kings Park the week before, but outside of him, the backline lacks experience, with only Bok discard Akona Ndungane and Gerhard van den Heever having played regularly at Super Rugby level. Scrumhalf Lohan Jacobs and lock Warrick Tecklenberg come onto the bench to replace Ruan Snyman and Okkie Kruger respectively, in the only changes to last week’s match 22.

Blue Bulls: 15 Jurgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Stephan Dippenaar, 12 Stefan Watermeyer, 11 Gerhard van den Heever, 10 Francois Brummer, 9 Dustin Jinka, 8 Gerrit-Jan van Velze, 7 Dewald Potgieter, 6 Derrick Kuun, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Fudge Mabeta, 3 Rossouw de Klerk, 2 Gary Botha (capt), 1 Corne Fourie
Reserves: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Warrick Tecklenberg, 19 CJ Stander, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 Marnitz Boshoff, 22 Francois “Wynand” Venter

Me too, at least my Currie Cup predicting has been better thatn the ITM!
This weekend is tough, though, griquas/pumas can go either way, and cheetahs/ sharks not an easy pick either.

  • @Greg (Comment 6) : WP/Bulls could go either way as well, but again the home team should pull through.

  • I’m not even going to debate about francois venter he is a class act so happy we have him at the bulls he does not even need to prove himself.

So far i’m not convinced abour Heimar williams…paul the bush master jordaan and piet lindeque stepping up.

For the good of sa rugby i hope lindeque can tackle venter did all the hard yards and tackling at grey he made piet look good

  • @VanWilder (Comment 13) : Franna Venter was at Grey as was Lindeque. Venter played SA schools in 2008 in std 9 and spent most of 2009 injured. Venter & Lindeque were the OFS centres at Grant Khomo in 2007 (when they were beaten by KZN). Not sure if Lindeque was at Craven Week in 2008 as he wasnt in either the SA Schools side (Mjekevu was picked at 13) or the South XV that was picked after Craven Week from OFS, WP, SWD, KZN, Ep etc. The “final” game in 2008 was won by SWD who beat OFS.

  • @Muzi (Comment 9) : I think you hit a typo there. You typed Brummer when I’m sure you meant to key Boshoff. Otherwise your statement doesn’t make sense???

  • @Muzi (Comment 10) : I really like Venter but not enjoying his style of play. I hope the WP centres Sadie and Whitehead run circles around the 1Ds of the Bulle.

  • @robdylan (Comment 19) :

oh I was hoping there were not two Fudge Mabeta’s … the sort of name that is not easy to miss.

I thought I may have the correct one .. I have him listed as an ‘other forward’ unless there are two in the other forward listings.

… will go and have a look… as well…. this could rocket me into contention

..I have the one that has scored 0 points instead of the 11

..valuable points in this tight contest
