There is quite a bit of rugby on at the moment, with the big World Cup starting in just over a month, as well as a good few football leagues kicking off in a matter of weeks. So here is a quick look at where the odds are standing in each competition.
First of all, we look at the Currie Cup, with the Sharks and Western Province off to good starts and are deservedly favourites:
Sharks – 5/2
WP – 7/2
Cheetahs – 4/1
Lions – 5/1
Bulls – 11/2
The Tri Nations trophy is a two horse race with New Zealand and Australia the only countries with a realistic chance of lifting the trophy:
New Zealand – 1/4
Australia – 5/2
South Africa – 33/1
The 2011 Rugby World Cup kicks off next month, and the odds have been changing in line with the form shown in the Tri Nations so far, and is sure to show more movement as the Northern Hemisphere teams kick off their warm ups this weekend:
New Zealand – 15/20
Australia – 7/2
South Africa – 6/1
England – 13/1
France – 20/1
For those that enjoy the round ball, I have included a selection of the top two leagues in the world:
La Liga:
Barcelona – 6/10
Real Madrid – 13/10
English Premier League:
Man Utd – 18/10
Chelsea – 5/2
Man City – 7/2
Arsenal – 8/1
Liverpool – 10/1
Tottenham – 40/1

Richard please give me a quick but a”dummy’s guide” to what those odd mean – I haven’t a clue
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 1) :
Think of the odd as a percentage..
Say a team is 2/1 to win.. for every 1 rand you bet, you win an extra 2 rand.. thus a 200% return on your bet.
If a team is 1/2, the return is 50%, which means you will collect R150, should you place a R100 bet.
If all else fails, refer to my original article on how to gamle:
http://www.sharksworld.co.za/2010/07/23/dummies-guide-to-gambling/
the thing is that the sharks are always favourites at the beginning of any season
I fancy a little treble bet here:
New Zealand to lift RWC
Man Utd to win EPL
Sharks to win CC
Should get myself a nice little 15/1 bet, now thats a steal!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 5) : For the bookie, yeah
@Greg (Comment 6) :
What could go wrong? LoL!
wpw! Put a tenner on Liverpool
The odds on SA at the World Cup are bound to improve once everyone stops crying like little wussies and realizes that we will always be a force in world rugby and we’re always a good bet in World Cups…I’m putting money on my boks
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) : Richard I can’t seem to find your famous piece on no risks gambling for people who want to get rich fast.
@Rahul (Comment 8) : You might as well chuck that tenner in the bin
