Griquas have named their team to face the Sharks in Kimberley on Friday night, with a few changes to the side that beat the Pumas last weekend, a game that could have gone either way had the Griquas team not built up quite such a big lead.

Riaan Viljoen, the future Shark, has been shifted to the wing and his place as last line of defence will be taken by Rudy Vogt. Dusty Noble completes at the back three.

Justin Downey falls out of the match 22 as his spot is taken by Jonathan Mokuena, with Burger Schoeman coming in as the specialist eighthman.

The half backs that ran riot in the first half against the Pumas will continue in this game as Marnus Hugo and Earl Rose get another chance to prove their worth.

Griquas: Rudi Vogt; Riaan Viljoen, Jean Stemmet, Barry Geel, Dusty Noble; Earl Rose, Marnus Hugo; Burger Schoeman, Davon Raubenheimer, Jonathan Mokuena (Capt), Martin Muller, Hendrik Roodt, Lourens Adriaanse, Ryno Barnes, Jean Botha.

Reserves: Matthew Dobson, Ivann Espag, Frikkie Spies, Marnus Schoeman, Matthew Rosslee, Monty Dumond, Wilmaure Louw.

  • Is Ivann Espag in any way related to Jaco Espag, the prop from the Bulls a few years ago?

  • @Butchie34 (Comment 1) :

A powerful young front row forward, Ivann Espag is the son of a former Bull stalwart, Jaco Espag. Jaco represented the Bulls from 1989 to 2001, six years before his son would start his rugby journey with the self-same union.

  • HEY! MARNUS SCHOEMAN! with the Griquas. No wonder Downey got dropped altogether. This could be the Vic Matfield story all over again. Bright young prospect starting out at the Griquas…

Justin has been ruled out for 2 weeks with an MCL strain. So injured, not dropped.

  • Sharks will do well to get 4 never mind 5 points here. Will be interesting to see what happens when Plum uses his bench, could be sum interesting movements.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 29) : I am not sure where they are getting there Durban weather information from. Now it says that it will rain on Sunday but the low on Tuesday will be -13

    BTW, cold beaches suck.

  • @lostfish (Comment 30) :

It probably does. We had snow for the 1st time in 10 years and we had loads of fun but I’m quite happy it only happens once in a while because I can’t really imagine living like that for a couple of months a year.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 31) : I love the snow but it doesn’t snow where I live. I can drive for 2 hours and be at a ski resort with lots of snow in winter. Snow is only useful for snowboarding.
