The final Currie Cup encounter for the weekend and a battle between neighbours, which are separated by nothing more than the boerewors curtain. On the rugby field though, there is much more that separates these teams.
The Bulls have 7 Springboks back in their team whereas the Lions can boast only one, with Elton Jantjies starting in the pivot role ahead of Burton Francis. The Bulls pack and backline both received reinforcement by the returning Boks, and look too strong for this Lions team, that are yet to face decent competition in the Currie Cup.
This match kicks off at 17h00 and should be an entertaining match nonetheless.

Brosnihan speaking to Dewald ‘Pretorius’.
Brosnihan should be fined every time he gets a player’s name or surname wrong.

LIONS!!!!
Lifeline lost, 1/4 on SB, even my FL suffered
The only SB game I got wrong was the Leapards/ Pumas…
A Half Ton of eliminations on LMS so far.
145 teams entered the game:
95 still alive.
81 still alive with no lifeline.
50 out of the game.
Bondiso played good
Must say…for the amount of penalties the Bulls conceded and the number of tackles the Bulls missed the Lions should have won by more…
The Lions still have some work to do…
Jantjies impressed he overshadowed Brummer
@Mutley (Comment 100) :
He just needs to learn how to pass…too many passes either too high or too low…
Well it is still early times….4th out of 14 rounds…
But for the time being…I will enjoy being top of the log…
Lions my boykies
Well done to the Lions.
I’m pleased for the decent Lions supporters on here like Greg and CSB.
Well done lions impressive play…jantjies plays like cooper enjoyed him
think i got 0/4 for my superbru picks this weekend!
@AlterEgo (Comment 108) :
And the aspect I was most impressed with was his defense…he definately worked on that since the super 15….
@beet (Comment 88) :
he played well ! didnt spend as much time as Jano moaning to the ref !
@Hmmm (Comment 103) :
it should get better as he gets more game time . he havent played in 6 weeks .
i feel in general a good rounded performance from the Lions.
but next week another big one against the Tahs in the coke tin …
@Zibbie (Comment 111) :
The Cheetahs are looking like a great team too…going to be a tough one…
The Cheethas forwards were over WP the Lions may struggle to beat them there but the back line of the Lions look dangerous. I liked Mapoe at outside centre he attacked the line every time
And, unsurprisingly, Muzi is conspicuous in his absence…
Funny to see northerns at bottom for a change…their era has ended and it looks like lions and sharks will battle the top now…as for lions look at their coaching staff …carlos spencer…i would say my fav nz player…the lions playing like a nz outfit very nice to see…
Oh and well deserved log leaders …hats off …will be an interesting affair when we sharks play against them
Have the Lions been affected by Bok call ups?? Not really!
That and that alone is the only reason why they’re doing well at the moment.
Its the Currie Cup for goodness sake. Let’s see where they are come knock out stages, if they ever make it that far!
@wpw (Comment 117) :
if you look at it this way it might seem a bit different. we havent won against the Kwas in Kimberly in how man years ? and this year we gave them a klap . they have not been affected by bok call ups either …
Welldone Lions! Deserved winners!
@ WPW the Lions played a stronger Bulls team than either the Sharks or WP played with 7 of their boks back, and they played them at Loftus so credit must be given where its due! Let’s not be sore losers
Wpw you suffering from cape bird flu and sorry to say sharksmad is correct. Lions beat blue bulls at home with no boks … Actually they bullied them and janties 10 played an awesome game controlling the back line…if he continues like that he will be a bok. @wpw sorry that wp lost and it is clear you are a sore loser…lets see when wp meet lions i think you will appreciate how well lions are playing without boks.
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 119) : @AlterEgo (Comment 120) :
Thanx guys !!!! you are some of the few people ( some Lions Supporters included) with an objective opinion . Everybody saying the Lions won because the Bulles played poorly …
EXACTLY !!!!! the Lions did not allow the Bulls to play there game. we bullied them like alter is saying . and thats great !!!! i hope this is the start of good things for the Lions ./ i hope we can hang onto the rest of our players !!!!
@AlterEgo
The sore loser description would be applicable if WP lost to the Lions. We didn’t did we??
@zibbie im a sharkie but really enjoyed watching the lions and it was the best cc game of the weekend. Lions have been raising my eyebrows for some time now thus getting better and better. I am concerned when we meet in cc. Envious that you guys got carlos spencer helping with coaching…good for you
@wpw phew you can whine…you always whine …heres a tissue
Vermaak set for Blue Bulls debut
Scrum-half Jano Vermaak could make his Blue Bulls debut as early as this weekend after being given an early release from his Lions contract.
On Monday the Blue Bulls announced that Vermaak has signed a contract to play for the Pretoria-based side for the remainder of the Currie Cup season.
The scrum-half was left out of the Lions team that beat the Blue Bulls 36-27 at Loftus Versfeld at the weekend as he had already signed a two-year contract to play for the Bulls in 2012 and 2013.
Vermaak was under contract with the Golden Lions till the end of October, but has been released with immediate effect.

Yep i dislike traitors in any form just like habana running to wp. Its sad when a player does that but it always backfires if no honesty in place.
That’s how a log should look like…. bulls at the bottom
Yep looks good their era is gone
@Zibbie (Comment 125) : this will definitively boost the bulls for this is one of the positions the are really struggling in.
