Although there are only three mid-week matches in Week 8, it could still provide an interesting gauge on how last year’s Finalist as well as this year’s Premiership bolters are travelling. With last year’s finalist Canterbury and Waikato facing off in Christchurch and Taranaki hosting Premiership leaders Bay of Plenty in New Plymouth, punters may be able to get some idea of form as we travel into the second half of what has been a topsy-turvy season to date.

Week 7 Review

Week 7 saw us predict 4 from 7, which for this season is a sound effort. Northland finished Superbru hopes of a Grand Slam Point after just one match with a huge upset over high flyers Bay of Plenty. Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu also both showed that at home they are not to be under estimated. Both will be looking to rest up mid-week as they try and refresh their troops for tough encounters away from home in Week 9.

Week 7 Results & Analysis

Game 33 Northland (30) v (23) Bay of Plenty Prediction: Bay of Plenty by 10-15 points

Match Previews – Week 8

Game 40 Taranaki v Bay of Plenty Prediction: Taranaki by 5-10 points

Both teams disappointed last time out with away losses to Manawatu and Northland respectively and both will be well motivated to get back to winning ways in order to keep their play-off chances alive. The ‘Naki’ may just prevail in a real arm-wrestle.

Game 41 Canterbury v Waikato Prediction: Canterbury by 10-15 points

This clash also pits two sides that ground out hard fought wins away from home. It was the final last year and some see it as another final-before-the-final, so markers will want to be set out. The odd player here still harbours dreams of yet making the All Blacks RWC Squad – interesting clash.

Waikato: 1. Toby Smith, 2. Marcel Cummings-Toone, 3. Nathan White (capt), 4. Toby Lynn, 5. Romana Graham, 6. Matt Vant Leven, 7. Marty Holah, 8. Alex Bradley, 9. Tawera Kerr-Barlow, 10. Stephen Donald, 11. Tim Mikkelson, 12. Jackson Willison, 13. Richard Kahui, 14. Henry Speight, 15. Trent Renata.
