WP have made two changes to their starting team from last week, captains Deon Fourie and Tiaan Liebenberg rotating this week while prop Wicus Blaauw drops out the 22 altogether.

WP u21 Steven Kitshoff gets a start against the Sharks with Frans Malherbe keeping his place on the bench. Brok Harris may count himself slightly lucky for keeping his starting place after a few less than impressive performances, specifically in the tight as he seems to prefer mixing with the backs.

Last weeks captain Liebenberg rotates with Fourie, potentially a risky move against the strong tight 5 of the sharks, with Liebenberg looking a lot more consistent at the set pieces.

Pieter Louw is still kept on the bench giving him an easier return to Currie Cup since his injury.

WP team to face Sharks:
15. Conrad Jantjes, 14. Danie Poolman, 13. Johann Sadie, 12. Tim Whitehead, 11. JJ Engelbrecht, 10. Demitri Catrikilis, 9. Dewald Duvenhage, 8. Nick Koster, 7. Siya Kolisi, 6. Rohan Kitshoff, 5. De Kock Steenkamp, 4. Hilton Lobberts, 3. Brok Harris, 2. Deon Fourie (c), 1. Steven Kitshoff

Reserves:
16. Tiaan Liebenberg, 17. Frans Malherbe, 18. Adriaan Fondse, 19. Pieter Louw, 20. Nic Groom, 21. Berton Klaasen, 22. Marcel Brache

Referee: Lourens van der Merwe

  • Not happy with changing our front row for such an important game :( and not sure what Blaauw did to be dropped out the 22 altogether.

  • @molly (Comment 1) : He must be injured.

I however can’t see 19 year old Kitshoff letting the side down. He is truly an amazing player with a good temperament.

Catrikilis is another success story. A poster boy for the Varsity Cup.

  • @beet (Comment 2) : been quite impressed with the ginger kid, seems to scrum alright and his work around the park is good. Very very competitive. Really enjoyed Catrikilis too.

What’s your take on WP taking lads out of uct and maties only?

  • @molly (Comment 3) : I don’t know enough about the WP setup to comment but from a marketing your Union to prospective schoolboy recruits point of view it seems an excellent idea to create the notion that attending a W/Cape Varsity and playing V-Cup is a shortcut into the junior and senior teams.

  • @molly (Comment 5) : And whats crazy about Province at the moment is the amount of talent they still have in the u21 team despite lending 5 to the senior team. Their depth is sick!
