The Sharks under 21 and under 19 sides for this afternoon’s games in Cape Town have just been confirmed.

The under 21 side will be captained by Shaun Malton this week and sees the return of three players from the Sharks ranks in Francois Kleinhans, Cobus Reinach and Sbura Sithole. Peet Marais was injured in a freak training incident on Monday and will sit out, with the big Ukranian Karolis Navickas starting in the second row. Look out for the return of Siseko Jafta off the bench – the promising loose forward has missed the first three rounds of action through injury.

Sharks u21′s v WP:

15 Gouws Prinsloo, 14 Jaco van Tonder, 13 Piet Lindeque, 12 Heimar Williams, 11 Sbura Sithole, 10 Fred Zeilinga, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Tera Mtembu, 7 Brynard Stander, 6 Francois Kleinhans, 5 Karolis Navickas, 4 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 3 Nick Schonert, 2 Shaun Malton (capt), 1 Danie Mienie
16 Monde Hadebe, 17 Njabulo Mkhize, 18 Johan Schoonbee, 19 Chris Cloete , 20 Siseko Jafta, 21 Paul Jordaan, 22 Nico van der Westhuizen

There have been a number of changes to Allan Dell’s under 19s this week as well, with perhaps the biggest being the inclusion of schoolboy flyhalf Rob du Preez, whose father Robert represented the Sharks at scrumhalf in the 90s. Another promising 17-year-old, Maritzburg College scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer, has been included on the bench while there’s a maiden start at eighthman for Hilton’s Guy Alexander, whose uncle Gary Teichmann was a famous occupant of the same jersey for the senior side during the 90s as well. Another College old-boy, Keelin Bastew, joins the squad for the first time as he’s given a start at fullback.

Sharks u19′s v WP:

15 Keelin Bastew, 14 Heinrich Arendse, 13 Andrew Holland, 12 Zorba Allerston, 11 Ofentse Boloko, 10 Rob du Preez, 9 Ivan Ludick, 8 Guy Alexander, 7 Khaya Majola, 6 Jason Klaasen, 5 Ernst Ladendorf, 4 Stephan Lewies, 3 Allan Dell (capt), 2 Franco Marais, 1 Deucullen van der Merwe
16 Senzo Mtshali, 17 Maks van Dyk, 18 Stephan Deyzel, 19 Wade Elliot, 20 Alwyn van Vuuren, 21 Stefan Ungerer, 22 Riaan van Zyl, 23 Janco Tiedt

  • Couple of talented players in the U19 squad..

Really like the look of Khaya Majola, a real hard worker!

Should be interesting to hear how du Preez and Ungerer go, liking the youngsters coming through for next year!!

  • As for the U21′s.. What a backline! I think the halfbacks ,should they gel (as this is the first time they are playing together) and get the backline flowing, we could see a few tries being scored!

  • I’m happy that Jason Klaasen is starting. We need a genuine opensider.

Well done to Robert du Preez (Kearsney) and Stefan Ungerer (although Stefan has plenty of experience at u19 level) on making the big step up from SBR.

It’s a pity Paul Jordaan isn’t in the u19 team. I think he’ll thrive next to a player like du Preez.

Sean Erasmus was aware of the speed that WP backs bring to the table, so hopefully we can contain their threats and use this game as a springboard to turning our season around.

  • This must be our strongest u21 team of the season.

I real pity about Peet’s injury. He’s a valuable player.

The matchup of Sithole vs Mbovane is mouthwatering.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 9) : I hope so, I haven’t seen much of him. In 2010 I didn’t watch any Hilton games and he didn’t really shine at CW. Last year my 2 fav no.8s were Dean Mullis of College and Shaun Adendorff of Glenwood and Guy got into KZN schools ahead of both and was captain, so I assume he’s good.

  • Our scrumhalf’s decision making is no good. Prinsloo is talented, we should keep him. Like the look of our flyhalf. Don’t know what the fuss about Lindique is..don’t think he’s our answer at 13.

  • Man. I just finished watching the u21 game.

Bloody Reniel Hugo. How good was he. Too good.

I was really sad when we pulled off Brynard Stander. He had another solid game and I can’t help but think that things started to turn Province’s way once he was off the park.

We really need to come up with some fresh ideas out there on the park. Sithole didn’t get anything that represented front foot ball. Not capitalising on linebreaks is another sore point – there is a lack of understanding or communication or both. The coaches need to work hard on turing all the individual bits into more of a team effort. This is what Province have pinned down – they are 15 guys playing for each other and the benefit of the team – individual brilliance is just the icing on the cake to them.

Gouws Prinsloo did well again. He deserves a shot at Currie Cup level. Lineouts were nothing for the Sharks to be proud of but if Pieter-Steph carries on playing the way he is, he’ll become a household name before too long.

  • Well done WP u21.

Also a 9-9 draw at Newlands against an unbeaten WP is a step in the right for our u19 team, so well done to them. Hopefully we can build on this result and claim a top 4 spot this season.

  • @bergshark (Comment 118) : Yes, Reniel is son of the silver fox Niel.

The dangerous Mbovane had 1 good run when he stepped his way inside and past Sithole but his 2 tries were made by shear determination. His first was in line with the posts when he got the ball about 10m out and worked his way into a little gap – some bad tackling helped his cause. For the second try he stripped the ball from a player in the tackle near the line but by then the Sharks had thrown caution to the wind so they were vulnerable defensively

  • I don’t go on this side much, but I wonder who can tell me more about how the u21 scrumhalf from Ireland got it right to play for the u21…he will be back in Ireland and the talented players that didn’t get the change to play, must then fill in the spaces when he goes back. Why not invest in our own players? I remember that nippy scrumhalf from Westville, Kelly, why doesn’t he get to play u21? No wonder the young players leaves overseas to play club rugby there!
