The Springbok selectors have announced the names of 12 players who have been placed on standby should the RWC squad be affected by injury.
Here is the list:
Dean Greyling – Blue Bulls
Werner Kruger – Blue Bulls
Adriaan Strauss – Free State Cheetahs
Gerhard Mostert – Stade Francais
Alistair Hargreaves – The Sharks
Jean Deysel – The Sharks
Ashley Johnson – Free State Cheetahs
Charl McLeod – The Sharks
Elton Jantjies – Golden Lions
Wynand Olivier – Blue Bulls
Lwazi Mvovo – The Sharks
Zane Kirchner – Blue Bulls

Wynand Olivier ahead of Adi Jacobs??
That’s just ridiculous!!
@wpw (Comment 1) : I was hoping it was the last of him…lets hope nothing happens to our main squad centres…remember Mr Lambie can alos still slot in there if abso necessary!
Here’s hoping that there is no injuries.
@Ice (Comment 2) : I’m starting to think Wynand Olivier must have sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads at midnight; only rational explanation for hem still being in the reckoning (albeit remotely)
@Culling Song (Comment 4) : he sold it to the Bulls…close enough to the devil!
Some of these guys will have to hope for 3 injuries in a position before they get the call.
Issuing this list is a bit of a waste of an exercise in my opinion.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 6) : I suppose it’s a ‘sorry you just missed out’ list. Its not like these players are going to do anything different because they know they’re on the standby list.
@Letgo (Comment 7) : Guess its some sort of consolation to them anyway…would have been to me..
@wpw (Comment 1) : Agree!!!
@Letgo (Comment 7) : Just warning them to get their passports in order
Johnson ahead of Kanko & Keegan?
Jantjies ahead of Peter Grant?The mind boggles!I would have put Louis Ludick ahead of Kirschner on form.
Feel bad for these guys ,deysel and johnson are hard done by!
Please, please, please let there be no injuries… just when I thought we were rid of Olivier.
2 locks on stand bye for a Squad that has 3 locks and 2 loose forwards that can easily play lock.
Dean Greyling pffft
HB
I actually think Greyling will become a fixture in the side in a few years.
He is a goodie.
Greyling is older than Beast and frankly nowhere near as good
@robdylan (Comment 16) :
Agreed..
Back the youth! Chadwick might come good at some point!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 17) : that’s a bit harsh, Rich… I would say Chadders is pretty good already
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
Come good at Bok level.. But you know what I mean!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 19) : ha ha. I’m just trying to avoid more emails from concerned family members, bro
@robdylan (Comment 20) :
I hear what you saying, my comment could be misinterpreted.
It was meant as a compliment and indicated that Chadwick could be a Bok one day..
@Ben (Comment 13) : Yip as someone has already said, this is a consolation list so that we don’t have players doing the “Hosea Gear” and announcing that they are now open overseas options.
Even with THAT being the criterea for the list there is a name or 2 on there that shouldn’t be there.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 22) : this is gonna sound soppy, but this place is just so much nicer when you’re around
@robdylan (Comment 23) : Hehehehehehe
@KSA Shark © (Comment 24) : I mean it
@robdylan (Comment 25) :
Wonder what’s up in SA Rugby, Adi Jacobs not even part of standby list
@Charlie: bad luck,mate:-(
@bergshark (Comment 28) :
