Round 6 of the Currie Cup has come to an end and it’s time to have a look at how the various team managers are faring in the Fantasy League over on www.justrugby.net.

The battle at the top of the table continues as Hansa (Byrne99) takes back the lead he lost to Te Maklik (Pieter Bergh) last weekend, with Hansa out scoring Te maklik by 65 odd points. The round was won by Bradley, who managed 519.5 points (including the 50 MVP points), beating Ekkies XV by 12 points. This good round by Ekkies XV has pushed him back into sixth spot on the overall log. Red Zibearians, Dwellies Sharks and White Stripes, thanx to some good rounds, all being in the top 20 scorers for the round, made up ground on the top two, and should make for a few interesting weeks.

Cheetahs eighthman Boom Prinsloo was by far the best player of the round, scoring three tries and amassing 47 points for managers with him in the team. Western Province pivot Demetri Catrakilis, with 7 successful kicks from 7 attempts, is tied second with Marcel van der Merwe, the Cheetahs front rower who managed to cross the chalk against the Pumas, who both got to 26 points. The Bulls’ third flyhalf for the season so far managed fourth position after a good showing against Griquas, notching up 25 points. The Sharks’ Odwa Ndungane, who crossed the white line twice and in so doing securing his position in the Springbok World Cup Squad, rounds off the top 5 on 23 points.

Looking at the top scoring players after the six rounds so far, Fred Michalak still leads the way on 123 points, 19 points clear of second spot, which is occupied with Demetri Catrakilis (104). Janno Vermaak, now a Bulls player, is in third with exactly 100 points. Cheetahs pivot Sias Ebersohn is notching up the points against the minnows, closing the gap on third and ending the round on 94 points. The top 5 is rounded up by a new entry, a centre, in Corne Uys, who sits on 80 points. Burton Francis has fallen out of the top 5 due to lack of game time, and it will only be a matter of time until Elton Jantjies joins the top five.

A short summary on returning players and injury concerns will be posted closer to the weekend, with discarded Springboks possibly strengthening a few teams. More will follow on this.
