Vogt returns for Griquas

Griquas will look to bounce back from their heavy defeat against the Blue Bulls at Loftus, when they face near-neighbours the Cheetahs in Kimberley this weekend. Coach Abrie Minnie has selected ace goal kicker Rudi Vogt ahead of Monty Dumond at fullback.

Vogt was instrumental in his side’s demolition of the Sharks a few weeks ago and while Dumond will never let the side down, it’s perhaps felt that the former is more of a genuine outside back. Dumond’s natural position is flyhalf, one which Earl Rose continues to hold down in the Griquas team. A further change at inside cente sees Barry Geel return to the side, at the expense of Matthew Rosslee.

Former Sharks XV centre Jean Stemmet, who moved to Kimberley after being continually overlooked by the Sharks coaching team, continues to impress and has made the number 13 jersey his own. The man he took it from, Wilamure Louw, has been bracketed at wing with Riaan Viljoen, who will need to pass a late fitness test.

A further injury to prop Jean Botha sees Ivann Espag come in at loosehead, with Griffons prop Kevin Stevens hastily rushed in as cover, while Griquas negotiate behind the scenes to try and secure the services of WP’s JD Moller for the rest of the season.

Griquas: 15 Rudi Vogt, 14 Riaan Viljoen/Wilmaure Louw, 13 Jean Stemmet, 12 Barry Geel, 11 Dusty Noble, 10 Earl Rose, 9. Sarel Pretorius, 8 Jonathan Mokuena (captain), 7 Davon Raubenheimer, 6 Justin Downey, 5 Martin Muller, 4 Hendrik Roodt, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Ryno Barnes, 1 Ivann Espag.
Replacements: 16 Simon Westraadt, 17, Kevin Stevens, 18 Frikkie Spies, 19 Marnus Schoeman, 20 Marnus Hugo, 21. Matthew Rosslee/Hanno Coetzee, Wilmaure Louw/Monty Dumond.

  • When will the Sharks team be announced this time. Plum has been early for the last few weeks. Maybe he has a few suprises up his sleeve, or maybe he’s just not that sure himself?
