The Sharks U21 team to face the Cheetahs U21 team as the curtain raiser for Saturday’s main Currie Cup game, sees a few changes to the line-up following their 88 – 10 victory over the Valke last Saturday.

In the forwards, Monde Hadebe returns to captain the side at hooker, and Nick Schonert will scrum down next to him, replacing Shaun Malton and Njabulo Mkize respectively. In the second row, Karolis Navickas returns to the bench to make way for the impressive Pieter-Stef du Toit.

Amongst the backs, some normality returns as Cobus Reinach returns to scrumhalf after the experiment of playing Fred Zeilinga at 9, while the only other change is Nico van der Westhuizen returning to the starting line up for Kayde Fisher, who drops to the bench.

There is a new face on the bench, Gideon Bruwer being the reserve hooker in the absence of Shaun Malton. Kick off for the U21 match will be at 12h40.

The Sharks U21: 15. Gouws Prinsloo, 14. Jaco van Tonder, 13. Piet Lindeque, 12. Heimar Williams, 11. Nico van der Westhuizen, 10. Paul Jordaan, 9. Cobus Reinach, 8. Lubabalo Mtembu, 7. Siseko Jafta, 6. Chris Cloete, 5. Peet Marais, 4. Pieter-Stef su Toit, 3. Nick Schonert, 2. Monde Hadebe (Capt), 1. Danie Mienie.

Reserves: 16. Gideon Bruwer, 17. Njabulo Mkize, 18. Karolis Navickas, 19. Brynard Stander, 20. Fred Zeilinga, 21. Andrew Norton, 22. Kayde Fisher

Quick question. Who you guys think should captain the Sharks next year?

It’s pretty straight-forward everywhere besides maybe the Bulls (think it’ll go to Potgieter, but would prefer Ralepelle) and the Sharks.

Yeah was thinking Keegan. Sort of wish Hargreaves would get some form because he’d be ideal, but he’s not sure of his spot either at the moment. Would almost be tempted to give it to Willem Alberts if he thinks he’s up to it.

    True that.
    Ideally I’d have:
Bulls – Chilliboy Ralepelle (he deserves it. Had a good S15 2011)
Cheetahs – Juan Smith (or Adriaan Strauss if he’s unfit)
Lions – Joshua Strauss (assured of his place in the team and has done a good job. deserves it)
Sharks – Really not sure… Might have to end up juggling again as they did in 2011.
    Stormers – Schalk Burger

Springboks – Schalk Burger or Juan Smith. Would prefer Schalk, just.

And when they’re going to implement that ‘central contracting system’ so that the Bulls can’t keep signing EVERYBODY.

    Bulls – Potgieter or Chilli
Cheetahs – Juan, always Juan (Strauss if Juan isnt available)
Lions – Josh, its whats working.
    Sharks – Keegan. Noone else.
Stormers – Jean de Villiers **

** Not the popular choice as the players do rally around Schalk i just feel that Jean makes better decisions when there is crap on a collision course with a fan.

I know but just thought I’d clear that up  Like to think of a good backline as a recipe. If you’re missing some ingredients it’s not going to work. In this case it’s a physical hard running centre because it limits your options.

    @Ben (Comment 42) :

Probably, but hopefully he comes good because the Sharks need either solid depth at centre, or a star who can be the ‘franchise’ centre.

You guys think that because of what Adi has done coming off the bench. Wishful thinking. He’s not hard the pressure of 80 mins trying to be perfect. He’s had his chance to establish himself but couldn’t, especially late in games where his smaller frame just couldn’t keep up with the physicality.

I really like him as an impact player like Plumtree is using him now, but I wouldn’t go near him as a starting centre.

12, but you don’t want Whitehead. What was the name of that Sharks centre that kept Andries Strauss out for ages? Grant Rees I think?

He’d be on par with Keil or Rees. The Sharks should aim higher then that.
