The pair of tries scored by flanker Jacques Botes this weekend have catapulted him to the summit of the 2011 Currie Cup top try scorers log, meaning that top spot on both the tries and total points logs are currently held by Sharks players.
Botes, who has enjoyed limited game time so far this season, made good use of a rare starting opportunity in Bloemfontein to dot down twice, although he’ll be the first to admit that the earlier of the two touchdowns was actually scored by Lwazi Mvovo everywhere but on the score sheet! Botes has thrice repeated the two-tries-in-a-match feat this season and with 6 in total, shares top spot on the log with Western Province centre Johann Sadie and Lions winger Michael Killian.
Sharks flyhalf Fred Michalak stands alone as the competition’s top points scorer, though, with 140 points courtesy of 2 tries, 3 drop goals, 20 conversions and 27 penalties. His closest rival is Lions pivot Elton Jantjes, rapidly rising up the charts after missing the first few games due to Bok commitments Jantjies currently sits on 110 points, just a shade ahead of Province’s Demetri Catrakilis (106) and Free State’s Sias Ebersohn (102).

Freddie couldve been lightyears ahead if the Sharks were able to score more tries. Jantjies will pass him at the end if the Lions keep playing as good as now.
Well done to all the top scorers though. Keep it up.
