The U19 team to kick off the rugby at Mr Price Kings Park this Saturday has been announced, as they face up to Western Province in a must win game. The team sees a reshuffled backline and only one change to the forward pack that faced the Cheetahs two weeks ago.
Amongst the forwards, we see Ernst Ladendorf replacing Braam Steyn in the second row, with Steyn falling to the bench while Wade Elliot falls out of the match 22.
It is in the backline where we see the most change, as Heinrish Arendse moves to fullback from right wing, Siyabonga Tom shifts from left to right wing, Janco Tietd moving from fullback to left wing. So all in all, the exact same back three, just a swop of jerseys.
We also see a brand new centre pairing as Ruan Allerston and Andrew Holland fall out of the match 22 to make way for Dean Moolman and Tyler Fisher. This takes to 5 the amount of school-going boys in this team, with Tyler Fisher, Dean Moolman, Siyabonga Tom, Stefan Ungerer and Robert du Preez all still at school.
The Sharks U19: 15. Heinrich Arendse, 14. Siyabonga Tom, 13. Tyler Fisher, 12. Dean Moolman, 11. Janco Tiedt, 10. Robert du Preez, 9. Ivan Ludick, 8.Guy Alexander, 7. Alwyn Jansen van Vuuren, 6. Khaya Majola, 5. Stephan Lewies, 4. Ernst Ladendorf, 3. Nicolaas van Dyk, 2. Franco Marais, 1. Allan Dell (Capt)
Reserves: 16. Chad Banfield, 17. Simon Kerrod, 18. Stephan Deyzel, 19. Jason Klaasen, 20. Braam Steyn, 21. Stefan Ungerer, 22. Riaan van Zyl, 23. Keelin Bastew

Dean Moolman is contracted to the blue bulls
i wonder why he did not sign a sharks junior contract.
@Muzi (Comment 1) :
Sounds like we might have got something right here. No point going to the Bulls to watch S and S play every Saturday.
BTW congrats on the achievements of your u19 team. The Bulls are really going all out to regain control of junior rugby in SA and they seem to be succeeding.
Thanks Mr Beet Paul Anthony has a great bunch of young players to choose from.
One can see the bulls really really want to win the junior under 19 currie cup comp.
What impresses me is the depth they have this year a guy like wiaan liebenberg has made the step up to under 21 rugby without any problems.
With rudi van rooyen injured i believe abrie griesel is playing really well.
What worries me though like last years final the bulls under 19s somehow choke
we always fail to impress in the crunch games.
Oh yea watch out for the free state under 19s they can beat anyone thats how well drilled those boytjies are.
@beet (Comment 2) : I will be watching heinrich Steyl very closely on saturday i believe he is the next ‘big thing’coming out from the wp under 21 set up.
Well done to Tyler Fisher and Dean Moolman on being selected.
For me, Tyler has been the KZN schoolboy player of 2011. He is incredibly powerful, very strong on his feet and has scored no fewer than 17 tries for Westville this season. It’s little wonder he made SA Schools.
Dean is an uncompromising defender. One of the best tacklers at SBR level in SA period.
Together these 2 formed an outstanding midfield combo in super KZN Craven Week backline that include Stefan Ungerer, Robert du Preez and SiyabongaTom, not to mention the super hotstepper Mbhembe Payi and speedy Lwazi Sithole.
@Muzi (Comment 3) : The Vrystaat u19s blow hot and cold. They do however have a super l/fwd combo in Neill Jordaan, Tyron Schulz and Henco Venter.
@beet (Comment 5) :
Do we know whether any of these young school boys are staying in Natal?
THe Fishers? du Preez has already signed elsewhere, not so?
@beet (Comment 6) : Beet they blow hot in the finals dude thats why i would rather play the sharks or lions the free state side worries me
they know how to win junior titles.
Jordaan is a big boy….there are alot of talented players in that side..ex waterkloof skipper thys smit is at 12 with van der merver from gimmies at 13.
You can include that big full back neil marais is class and you can inlude little kevin luiters.
Its a great side beet.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) : Relax the fishers are staying put with the sharks also you can include the du preez brothers who recently in an interview stated that its their dream to put on the black and white jersey.
Happy Mr Ferguson
@beet (Comment 6) : Where is that hybrid wing boulle from westville going to?
@Muzi (Comment 9) :
My number one purchase would be Siyabonga Tom.. to be honest..
Hope he hangs around..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : He will stay that is why he is playing for the sharks under 19 side
@Muzi (Comment 12) :
But then why is Dean Moolman playing?
Logic?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 7) : As Muzi said, Dean Moolman signed a contract with the Bulls – I think as long ago as last year – these days the Bulls scouts hang out at maternity wards to get baby’s thumb print on one of those contracts
They must spend a fortune on junior contract printing costs
However I think Dean must be staying. It is highly unusual for a Union to play a schoolboy that is not going to be part of the setup the following year
@beet (Comment 14) :
See my comment above..
This is why I am rather confused..
I heard a rumour that Matfield’s daughter is the next big thing to come to the Bulls as well..
@Muzi (Comment 8) : Ja I like Neil Marais. Good player.
But look at the VS u19 results this season. No consistency. They’ll lose to the Sharks at home then beat WP at Newlands. They snuck home against the Leopards after losing to them in round 1.
Maybe you’re right. They are so unpredictable that they’ll beat WP and the Bulls in the playoffs.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : Tom is still in Standard 9… so he’s not going anywhere for another year at least.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks it’s hilarious that we have a junior winger called Lwazi Sithole? Does he have a mate called Sibusiso Mvovo?
@robdylan (Comment 17) :
I saw that and giggles to myself.. Can you imagine the confusion?!
@robdylan (Comment 17) : Sibusiso Mvolo is still in Gr.11. Look out for him next year.
@beet (Comment 19) :
No fricking way???!!!!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 20) :
I’m joking. But don’t bank on Gr.11 players staying put anymore.
If you don’t believe me ask EG Jansen, Waterkloof or even Westville about their u18 provincial players who’ll be at other schools in 2012. 2 of them will be playing for other provinces as well.
@beet (Comment 21) :
Wow.. seems like an interesting trade going on..
Is the buying and selling of school boys even allowed?
Plumtree doesn’t know how to make changes to his team. Weak selections again.
From with schools are these young guys?
@Shark1Fan (Comment 24) : I’m sure Beet will be along soon to answer that!
I know Ungerer goes to Maritzburg College, Du Preez to Kearsney and Fisher to Westville… I think Tom is also at Kearsney.
@Shark1Fan (Comment 24) : They come from all over the country. There is even a player there from Pretoria Boys High School but he was boarder (not a day boy).
The schoolboys are Ungerer (Maritzburg College Captain), Robert du Preez (Kearsney), Tyler Fisher (Westville and SA Schools), Dean Moolman and Siyabonga Tom (both Glenwood, Tom is SA Schools)
@beet (Comment 26) : oh shit… I got one wrong.
Yes, young Kerrod is a Boys High boy and a real gent too. Despite him being a boarder
@Shark1Fan (Comment 24) : Okay here’s the full list compliments of Rob’s post from a while back:
The Sharks U19: 15. Heinrich Arendse (Scotsdene,WP), 14. Siyabonga Tom (Glenwood,KZN), 13. Tyler Fisher (Westville, KZN), 12. Dean Moolman (Glenwood, KZN), 11. Janco Tiedt (Riebiecksraad,Griffons), 10. Robert du Preez(Kearsney,KZN), 9. Ivan Ludick(Oakdale,SWD), 8.Guy Alexander(Hilton,KZN), 7. Alwyn Jansen van Vuuren(Glenwood,KZN), 6. Khaya Majola(Westville,KZN), 5. Stephan Lewies (Eldoraigne, Lions), 4. Ernst Ladendorf (Marais Viljoen, Lions), 3. Nicolaas van Dyk (Paarl Boishaai, WP), 2. Franco Marais(Transvalia,Lions), 1. Allan Dell (Capt) (Queens College, Border)
Reserves: 16. Chad Banfield (Graeme College, EP CD), 17. Simon Kerrod(Pretoria Boys High Boarding Establishment*,Bulls), 18. Stephan Deyzel (Brandwag, EP), 19. Jason Klaasen(Maritzburg College,KZN), 20. Braam Steyn(Paul Roos, WP), 21. Stefan Ungerer (Maritzburg College,KZN), 22. Riaan van Zyl, 23. Keelin Bastew (Maritzburg College,KZN)
@beet (Comment 28) : Eldoragine is in Centurion… you sure that Lions?
@beet (Comment 28) : Riaan van Zyl went to Bethlehem Voortrekker
@robdylan (Comment 29) : I had no idea where it was exactly. I just knew it was in Gauteng so guessed Lions. Thanks.
Thanks@robdylan (Comment 30) : Thanks.
@robdylan (Comment 30) : You have to feel for talented kids from schools like these. Unless they are exceptionally good, their chances of making their regional Craven Week teams is infinitesimal, if I can you that word here.
Voortrekker actually had a reasonably good season this year and even made it onto the R365 top 20 for a week.
Ruan Combrink played sharks u19 while still at school and went on to play for province. No logic
Can’t wait for some of these okes to grow up a bit. Tyler Fisher especially. :lickinglips:
7-5 to Province u19 who scored a try on the halftime hooter when Lewies missed a tackle. We will be taking more of a diagonal wind in the face in the 2nd half so will do well to stay in this one.
10-5 19min to go
10-10.Arendse try. 15min left
13-10 to Sharks thinks to Tom. 9min to go.
