Plumtree doesn’t ring the changes

The Sharks have resisted the temptation to make wholesale changes to the side that beat Griquas last week, with the unfortunate Adi Jacobs again named on the substitutes bench.

Ross Skeate returns to the starting lineup in the number 5 jersey vacated by Alistair Hargreaves this week, in the only change to the pack. Hargreaves is surprisingly completely absent from the match 22 and no indication has been given as to whether this is as a result of injury. Jandre Marais, presumably having served his penance after the costly yellow card in Bloemfontein, returns to the number 18 jersey, while Anton Bresler has been passed fit to start again in 4, after being in doubt earlier in the week due to an ankle injury. Wiehahn Herbst, also doubtful due to a groin niggle, has recovered sufficiently to play off the bench, while young Monde Hadebe is also retained as backup hooker.

The only change amongst the backs is at scrumhalf, where Ross Cronje’s shoddy outing against the men from Kimberley has cost him a spot not only in the starting team, but in the 22 altogether. Charl McLeod will start alongside Fred Michalak in the halfbacks, with Conrad Hoffmann coming in as the backup scrumhalf. Marius Joubert and Stefan Terblanche retain their position at outside centre and fullback respectively, somewhat fortunately so, one might add.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter comes back into the 22 to replace the unfortunate Louis Ludik on the bench, the latter having broken his foot.

The Sharks

8. Keegan Daniel (Captain)
7. Jean Deysel
6. Jacques Botes
5. Ross Skeate
4. Anton Bresler
3. Eugene van Staden
2. Kyle Cooper
1. Dale Chadwick

Replacements
16. Monde Hadebe
17. Wiehahn Herbst
18. Jan Andre Marais
19. Marcell Coetzee
20. Conrad Hoffmann
21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter

  • @molly (Comment 10) : bloody hard question. My problem isn’t Keegan at 8, per se… my problem is Keegan at 8 with Botes at 6. It has simply never worked.

With what we’ve got right now, I’ll say 6 Keegan, 7 Deysel, 8 Coetzee with Hoff replacing Coetzee next week. That Daniel-Deysel-Kankowski trio has shown itself to be both superbly balanced and very versatile in the past.

Plumtree was never going to innovative, but considering that some of the WP’s better players are playing off the bench, his selections are pretty good (may well be inadvertently).

I actually thought that given newbie Marne Coetzer’s size, if big JJ shifted to loosehead, he’d have a better chance of starting for 1sts next season. Glenwood are in a good position to start using the semi-controversial squad system. Shot for the info.

And the green machine has always aimed for out right domination of south africa not just kzn, even if we lost people would know they played a game against the mighty green machine,it looks like some kids have forgotten what that badge means, what that grasshopper is about, what that green jersey is about, win or lose we did it in style and skill minus our crazy centres that were told to run straight no matter what and if someone tackled you than get his jersey number and get him back when he has the ball lol

  • @Poisy (Comment 36) : no one knows what the future holds but the Green Machine looks set to have their best year since 2008. The line should be awesome with ball in hand. Glenwood have struggled to complete up front with the big highveld boys in the last few seasons but with the help of the big SA Sch prop, it seems like they will find it a lot easier to hold their own. Ur no.8 Carel Swart is a special player. I hope the Sharks can hold onto him. When I suggested to Siya Tom that you guys could be a top 5 team next year, he quickly pointed out that the team were aiming to be no.1 in 2012. I liked his confidence. BTW you guys have about 15 guys with 1st team experience coming back next season.

  • @Poisy (Comment 52) : It can be very deceiving playing with or against someone at school. I played with and against Johan Jackson at school. He played centre, wing and Fullback. He was big fast and very strong. I thought for sure this guy will play for the Boks one day. He went to the IRB U19 world cup in Dubai in 2006. After that he joined the Bulls. That didn’t work out so he joined the Valke and now at 24 years old he finds himself a fringe player for the Pumas. I guess all I’m trying to say is all the promising school boys don’t turn out to be as good as we think they will..
