Sharks coach John Plumtree has made the call to drop Stefan Terblanche to the bench for this weekend’s game against the Leopards at the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg, and U21 fullback sensation Gouws Prinsloo has cracked the nod to start his first game at fullback.

Stefan Terblanche, should he take to the field during the match, will earn his 100th Currie Cup cap for the Sharks, in a stellar career filled with hard work and determination.

The other changes to the team sees the return of French maestro Frederic Michalak to the flyhalf berth, with Meyer Bosman taking over the 12 jersey from Marius Joubert, who drops to the bench. Adi Jacobs will be relishing another start in the 13 jersey, and outside the likes of Michalak and Bosman, should get a fair bit of front foot ball.

Conrad Hoffmann comes in for Charl McLeod while Ross Cronje gets another chance to shine off the bench.

Amongst the forwards, the Jean Deysel experiment continues at lock, teaming up with Ross Skeate in the second row. We can expect much the same in the form of replacements with a full second row on the bench, with Bresler and Marais sure to make an impact off the bench n the second half.

Monde Hadebe will be hoping to get off the bench in this match as he was unused last weekend, and add to his Currie Cup experience. Wiehahn Herbst rounds off the reserves bench.

  • so we continue with our 1.9m “non-jumper” front lock. I wonder if the lineouts will be better this week?

  • Well done to Gouws, hope the U21 team will not miss him too much. Funny decision to play Deysel as lock again. It did not really helped last week. Play Marais or Bressler. They made a big difference when they came onto the field. Marais was really impressive

  • The plan with Deysel is quite simple. Instead of playing Deysel or Coetzee, they are playing both.

Bresler and Marais will form the second half combo, with Deysel taking over from Botes..

He has been brilliant for the U21′s so far this season.

This kid is a brilliant talent! Wasted money buying Viljoen with this kid in the ranks..

  • As Rob would say : A dose of Gouws.

Well done to Gouws Prinsloo. He really earned the call up.

At long last the Sharks have an attack-minded player in the 15 jumper.

The challenge will be for the exploders like Daniel, Cooper and Jacobs to run the inside shoulder support lines that are too often missing when Gouws made clean linebreaks for the u21s.

I’m hoping this selection sends my Gouws Prinsloo youtube vid passed the 1000 hit marker.

  • Will be interestign to see what Prinsloo offers, hopefully he does the basics well. I think its good to have Deysel at lock, and Plum can afford to with Coetzee and Daniel being lineout options. Who is Deysel to say where he will and will not play. It should be an honour to get on the park for the Sharks in any positions. Players heads getting a bit big i think!

  • I was really impressed by the way Tusi Pisi and I think it was Sapolu at 12 combined for Samoa against the Boks. Pisi’s passing was the catalyst and Sapolu’s energetic running caused concerns. Neither of these guys are regarded as world class but as a combination they were deadly.

I would love to see the Sharks trying to play with that same kind of accuracy and energy in the 5/8ths positions – use this weekend as the springboard to get some confidence and form back into their game.

I’d also like to see our wings running down the middle a little more and more phase ball setups that have the opposition D in 2 minds about what we’re about to do – flat pass and crash/drive or standing a little deeper to spread it wide, with the option not being used, serving as the decoy to keep the D honest.

Stoked for this Prisnloo youngster. He’ll be a good one.

Now we just need to look at bringing Jordaan onto the bench etc.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 15) : Deysel will play where the Sharks need him no doubt. As a “hasbeen” myself, I never liked it to be playing out of my position. Deysel is definetly no “hasbeen”. I still feel he is “locked” in and can’t get around the park as he would like to. Meaning that he will have to wait longer to get the ball to take it up.

  • @FS Shark (Comment 23) : I do get what u mean bout him being “locked” in thus limiting his ball carries, but thats really just a scrum problem. Everywhere else on the park he can still carry the ball. I think Plum ius just trying to see if he can fit Deysel,Alberts in the same team. Alberts is quicker which is why he is favoured for loose forward, altho he lock resrve for the Boks!

But because of those factors I choose not to subject myself to the anger and depression that accompanies watching them of late. So I wish and will them on to win, but instead of doing it from in front of the tv, I do it from whichever tree I have to climb with my daughter at the time
