A phrase that we seem to be hearing a lot these past few days is: “They deserve it”. Blah…blah…blah…
The heat is on, and it’s cooking time. Time for the Currie Cup Final!
I am sorry for all you sentimental fools out there, but I do not for one second think the Lions “deserve” the trophy. For what bizarre reason do you think they do? This, people, is only the biggest local rugby competition in South Africa, and for me it’s about grinding out a win.
Who will give the best display on the day. Who would play the hardest game. No one “gets” a trophy, you bloody-well WORK for it.
If the Lions “deserve” it, well, then so does the Sharks. We ended second on the log, albeit grinding out wins and it was not always “pretty” rugby. BUT. We showed why we were second on the log and why we are where we are, by beating the Cheetahs last weekend. So, in my opinion both teams in the final deserve to be there. And therefore, as much as the Lions deserve it, so do we!
Unfortunately there can only be one winner.
Why is it that the whole of SA non-Sharks supporters all of a sudden became cameoing Lions supporters? Because they got no Springboks in their team? Well for the main part of the season, neither did we. Because they won? Well so did we.
On this point, I would like to point out that, again in my humble opinion, we showed that we are a Champion side. We didn’t win pretty, but in many matches, trailing with some plenty points, we still manage to get that win. Now if that is not awesome and show determination, I do not know what does!
Let’s face facts. It’s NOT going to be easy. Over the last 6 years, it was always the home team who were victorious and lifted the beautiful cup. So this is our biggest challenge – nullify the home ground advantage. Pitch up in thousands. Support our team. I have sat many a time at Loftus, feeling that I was in the stands at Kings Park. IF you can get there – support the boys!
Yes – the lions are sentimental favourites. For various reasons. The main one being that they have not won a thing in YEARS, so now the rest of SA wants them to win. (Nobody had sympathy for us when we had to wait 12 years). So count me out of “one of SA”for this one”. When it comes to the Sharks, I am rather a heartless tough cookie. You stuff with the Sharks, you stuff with me….
Let’s look at some finals stats for the Lions:
In the 18 finals the Lions have played:
At home: They won 1, drew 1 and lost 4 – 17% success rate.
Away: They have won 6 and lost 6 – 50% success rate.
In all 18 finals, they won 6, drew 1 and lost 10 – thus a 39% success rate.
Does that sound like they “deserve” it..? Just because they have played some decent rugby in ONE Currie Cup season?
The Currie Cup is OURS…and we are NOT gonna let go without a fight. You bet you Lions supporting ass on that!

Damn straight Ice! I like this
You’re either with us or against us. Pick your side.
I support the sharks and have no ‘second team’
Ice, so ‘n mond moet jam kry
Looks like we’ve got tickets for the final. Excited but bloody nervous!
@robdylan (Comment 2) : 100%
Thanks King Riaan!
But the Lions do deserve it, Ice.
A hiding that is!
GO SHARKS!!!
Every Shark supporter wants the Sharks to win the cup. I’m sure of that. I don’t think that anyone thinks that the Sharks don’t deserve to win it though. Most people will support the ‘underdogs’ if they can’t support their own team.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : Having a second team is just an excuse to drop your team when the going gets tough. The Lions created their own problems so there is no reason to feel sorry for them. If people don’t like the Sharks and therefore support the opposition that is obviously their own choice but the Lions need to win the final to deserve it.
@JarsonX (Comment 7) : Even the All Blacks played against the world this past Sunday.
GO LIONS!!
Can we have the Sharks’ stats please
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 10) :
I’ve heard about this before. Apparently some victims of abuse find that the only way to overcome the trauma is to learn to love the perpetrator.
It happened to Patty Hearst and Lawrence of Arabia, and after the violation of your team last week, it has apparently happened to you.
So sad.
@Big Fish (Comment 12) :
@JarsonX (Comment 11) :
At home lost 4 won 3 – 43%
Away lost 3 won 3 – 50%
Total lost 7, won 6 – 46%
This might be inaccurate – just worked it out quickly!
Well put Ice.
We need to dominate again like we did back in the nineties.
Can you believe some lions would now have me believe they are actually the team of the nineties?!
Go Sharks!!
My 3rd team.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 14) : In essence, the away team is the favourite to win
Yeah, this is what i’m talking about, Sharks supporters who aren’t coy
and indifferent!
black & white or NOTHING boys
Sharks by 20!
Btw, has the Ross Cronje move to Jo’burg been confirmed?
Hahaha. You all sound a little nervous. You should win by 10.
I actually support a lot of teams. The Sharks and then whoever else I picked on SB
I also tend to support the lowest ranked team on the log, in other words I’ll support an outcome that favours the Sharks.
@JarsonX (Comment 21) : But ultimately I support the Sharks above all. Even the Bokke comes 2nd.
I support a CC first division team too. Megatron may be happy to know it’s the EP Kings
If they ever find their way out of the first division or get a SR spot I will pick a different first division team though. I think it’s important to take an interest in that side of the CC too.
Haha GO SHARKS!!! Screw s.a sharks forever black and white nothing else matters! I’m totally amped now anybody know if there’s still tickets available?
@vanmartin (Comment 23) : tell magatron I said go boland
@Poisy (Comment 25) : come poisy, phakamisela iqembu lakho ndoda!
predict the score!
@Poisy (Comment 25) : I’ll be sure to pass on the message at the EP supporter’s annual potluck!
Cowboys don’t cry.
@Megatron (Comment 26) : Isn’t it obvious? Sharks 24 – 10 Lions
@Megatron (Comment 26) : sharks by 15 megatron
@vanmartin (Comment 29) : u mean sharks 24-9 lions
Sharks by 44. Oh wait, that one already happened
@Poisy (Comment 31) : After rereading the tea leaves I believe you are indeeed correct!
@vanmartin (Comment 33) : what are they saying about our talented under 21′s?
Lions by 10.
Lions 8 – 21 Sharks
@Bloubloubul (Comment 35) : shouldn’t you be concerned with your under 21′s?
just saying
@Poisy (Comment 37) : sharks under 21 is playing against the Bulls currie cup team so no contest for us there.
@Poisy (Comment 34) : All signs point to a river of tears at Loftus HQ
@Bloubloubul (Comment 38) : is that so
you in for a shock buddy your kidz are going down they might have blou blood but that’s not the only thing that will be blue after that game
may the best team win and take the trophy back to durbz
@Poisy (Comment 40) : What he implied is that the CC team couldn’t secure a Currie Cup play-off spot so the Sharks U21′s shouldn’t lose sleep on this one
Sharks 27 – Lions 19
But if the Sharks play the way I want them to play and they sometimes deem it worthy to play, they could take it again by 40+.
Go Sharks!
Lions 7 – Sharks 8
No Sharks by 17.
There is mayor construction going on at Loftus. Busy builing a fortress for all the cups we are going too win from next year on.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 44) : Which is completely dependant on whether you guys are planning on renewing Meisiekind’s contract
@vanmartin (Comment 41) : can’t believe bulls supporters can be so cocky even after they team was shit! That’s why I’m gonna enjoy it when they get spanked nxa
@vanmartin (Comment 45) : even if they do there’s nothing he can do with a shit team that gives penalties away like they do
@Poisy (Comment 47) : You should have ended the sentence here: “…there’s nothing he can do”. I really think Wynand is a liability to the Bulls.
You can’t say the Lions didn’t improve their game. They won 3 games in the Super15, won 0 last year. Was able to top the CC log after playing better rugby than the last couple of CC and beat a full strength WP in the CC semi final convincingly. They have made a step in the right direction but I don’t think they will pull it of against the Sharks it will be close I say Sharks 23 Lions 21 but hoping Lions will win it
@vanmartin (Comment 48) : he fits in with most of his squad
@Poisy (Comment 47) : @vanmartin (Comment 48) : Hey! Be nice to Bloubloubul! It’s not HIS fault that his team couldn’t cut it! I am sure he is just longing for some decent rugga…that’s why he is hanging on our site!
I see you guys are buying all these old players. We will give Wynand for you.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 51) : I actually staring to like you, that normaly does not happen, thanks Ice.
@Mutley (Comment 49) : No one is denying that they have certainly stepped it up – but what I am saying is that stepping it up in one year, does not make them “simpathetically deservant”. They need to step it up and win and then they will be deservant!
Todays Mercury in Stefan Terblaches’s weekly article, he said that its his last game for the Black and White, his moving elsewhere next year and that he will announce the exact details next week. By the way, where is Richard Ferguson gone to?
@Bloubloubul (Comment 53) : well that will be a first! I am actually a likeable gal, or so I’ve heard!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 52) : and still kick your ass with grand pa’s
@Mocho (Comment 55) : where have u been 2 bro?
@Bloubloubul (Comment 44) : so why are u here on a SHARKS site…… oh ja nothing going on @ the bulls blogg… for weeks now….
@Bloubloubul (Comment 44) :
I’m actually starting to change my mind on the Bulls heading forward. I did think they would be terrible the next couple of years, but…
- I think Chilliboy is an excellent hooker who will only be better for not rotating with Gary Botha.
- They’ve got a good set of locks again. Very good job signing Kruger & Steenkamp.
- Reckon if Francois Hougaard plays as well as many thinks he will – if he continues playing with that sort of energy but becomes more precise – he’ll rival Genia.
- Wynand Olivier isn’t half as bad as people make out, and will be much better with Sadie outside him. Will also make for a nice rotation with Francois Venter also there.
- JJ Engelbrecht the perfect guy for that Bulls 11 jersey.
I do hope they sort out that loose-forward trio though. Tough when your back-ups are the better players (drop Stegmann & Dewald Potgieter). Also hopefully find another option at fullback. I’m no fan of Kirchner, but also not so sure Beyers is the right guy.
Bulls are going the right direction if Heyneke is to be believed. If they play a more balanced game they’ll be at the top again before long.
Oh, and maybe they can do something with Lionel Cronje. The guy messed up every second time he touched the ball in a Stormers jersey, but having a flyhalf that can break the line looks like ‘the future’.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 52) : have too give u some credit here, you gonna have the best looking garden cause for the last few weeks you had nothing els to do on a Saturday
@Poisy (Comment 58) : Studying bro Exams and what not. Plus my BlackBerry has gone all Quade Cooper on me i.e. freezing when I need it the most lol. Hows the sailing going?
All the teams I supported this year lost. This weekend I will support the Sharks.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 51) : he atleast got one sain person in his house hold, his daughter is supporting a winning team….
@Bloubloubul (Comment 63) : we understand, you just wanna get that winning feeling once this year…..
@Mocho (Comment 62) : its good hey recently got my power boat and safty boat licence and started coaching sailing to kids.ya the sea broke my blackberry I recently got a new one!
Hahah Tannie Ice !!!! we dont want your sympathy thank you !!!! WE WANT THE CUP !!! BRING IT HOME BOYTJIES !!!!
I have a feeling this is going to be like the WC final … sharks to scrape it …. but im still behind my boys !!!!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 52) : Hey, don’t joke about things like that!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 63) : Please don’t
@Zibbie (Comment 67) : You don’t have my sympathy!! Read my article again!!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 52) : I don’t think Wynand is a test standard player but he’s had plenty of stand out performances for the Bulls that have mattered, especially at SR level.
I just have to think back at our home SR game against them as a reminder of how destructive Olivier can be.
I always consider him to be a threat that the Sharks have to take very seriously. His partnership with Francois Venter seemed to be taking good shape at the back end of the season.
I can’t understand why Bulls fans wud want to see him go just yet
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 70) :
Still want the cup though
@Poisy (Comment 66) :Thats so awesome!! How many kids do you teach? Would I look like Andries Bekker in the New Zealand Dwarf throwing contest or is teaching open to everyone? Do you have the same license as me? The one where you only allowed to take the boat to dams, harbours, lakes and rivers? You must hook me up with your bbm pin on twiiter bro.
@beet (Comment 71) :His time is up the same as Habana. Time for new blood.
Golden Lions team
15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Doppies la Grange, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Michael Killian, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Joshua Strauss (captain), 7 Michael Rhodes, 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 CJ Van der Linde
Substitutes: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 Jacobie Adriaanse/JC Janse van Rensburg, 18 Warren Whiteley, 19 Cobus Grobbelaar/Jaco Kriel, 20 Butch James, 21 Dylan des Fountain, 22 James Kamana
@Bloubloubul (Comment 74) :
Sjoe! You seem determined to clear out the last of the old guard.
Is there any particular centre/s in Pretoria that you had in mind to replace Olivier?
@Mocho (Comment 73) : yup only kids but there’s coarses you can take for adults but I don’t coach those.ya but my licence also allows me to drive power boats for the luxury ships since I got my safety license 2 and I’m also allowed to take out power boats to sea
With Styen next to Venter and hougaard also there, they can keep Venter there. Lambi is also a yougster that the coatching staff beleived in.
@hendrikp (Comment 60) : where did I get the idea that Gary Botha is leaving…? Could have dreamt it..
@Bloubloubul (Comment 78) : Lambi???? Bwahahahahahahahahahaha! He’s a homeboy dude!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 80) : Yes I know I just used him as an example of couches that must give young talent more chances.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 81) : I recall a time when the Bulls went with 2 very young centres, Andre Snyman and Danie van Schalkwyk. They made a very successful midfield pairing despite their lack of experience, so who knows, maybe a wet behind the ears Venter-Sadie partnership will thrive if given the chance.
Hold on a min its been my experience thats its alot of your supporters coining the “they deserve it” phrase ..
If we lose too the Lions it won’t be so bad cause they deserve it ..sound famliar ..
Naturally the team that wins deserves it and imo both these sides played well enough to play in the final ..
This site is perpetuating this thought all on their own …
And lets face it the reason more than normal neutral supporters are rallying behind the Lions is for one simple reason..
Everyone loves an underdog
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 80) : Ice his got a foto of lambi in his wallet and at the back he wrote “If only you were a bull”
@Franshark (Comment 84) : @Franshark (Comment 84) : As a Bulls Supporter I would not be surprised if he has a picture of a wallet, in his wallet.
Guys, no need to be so antagonistic to our Blou Bul friend. Save it for game day.
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 83) :
I skeem you are right.
This just in ..so 70 odd thousand it is ..?
Johannesburg – Tickets for the 2011 Absa Currie Cup final match between the Golden Lions and Sharks have sold out.
The match kicks-off on Saturday, October 29 at 17:00.
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 87) :
Wow, never realised there were 55 000 Shark fans in Gauteng, impressive.
@beet (Comment 82) :
I can’t agree with people wanting to get rid of Wynand Olivier.
He may not be suited to test rugby, but he’s very effective for the Bulls. One of the better 12′s around.
It’s not time for new blood, unless the new blood is better then him. At this stage, he’s still the best option for the Bulls at 12.
@Big Fish (Comment 86) : don’t worry he can take it cause he knows how to dish it
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 87) : Upper east stand still available at the Shark Tank for R175!
@Franshark (Comment 84) : Hahahah ou Frans! That is funny!
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 83) : its exactly why I wrote the article…I cannot believe fellow sharks can use that phrase.
If the Sharks win, they wil deserve it, if the Lions win, I’ll be one pee-ed of Lady!
As a Province supporter I am supporting the Sharks.
I can’t see the Lions matching up to the Sharks forwards.
They are the Bokke front row so I want to see them do well.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 92) :
i agree 400 % !!!!!
hope i can hang on to my lead with FL .. and was still in the running for LMS …
@Leviathan (Comment 93) : Thanks for the support Dude!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 92) : its not if the Sharks win, its when the Sharks win
@Zibbie (Comment 94) :
Whats happened to LMS?
@Franshark (Comment 96) : You are SO right!
031-3088400 – anyone looking for tickets? Phone this nr its the Sharks ticket office – apparently still some available!
Well said Ice!
The Lions don’t deserve anything just yet! Oh and I’d like to take this moment to thank Bryce Lawrence for putting the Currie Cup back in the Sharks’ lap!
@Ben (Comment 100) :
@hendrikp (Comment 89) : I agree. That was pretty much my feeling conveyed in comment 71. I can’t understand why Bulls fans wud turn on Olivier so suddenly. I think he still has a lot to offer.
I know it’s his destiny to play 12 but I’m still bummed that Frans Venter can’t continue at 13*. The timing of his impacting runs and the lines that he picks, is Jaque Fourie like. He possesses the kind of package specifically designed result in clean breaks of the line in close contact situations. At 12 Venter has looked 1D and his decision making has left a bit to be desired. I wud definitely look to Olivier as my first choice 12 at the Bulls in 2012.
*It’s no disrespect to Sadie, a player I like.
@beet (Comment 102) : This whole season he was not on parr. In todays era of the game you can not affort that. He is going to play next year still for us. Maybe the yougster will bring out the best out of him again. Competition tends to do that.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 103) : Meisiekinds biggest problem is that he has glue in his hands…he hardly pass the ball and opposition finds him predictable..because of this. So many times the Bulls had a beautiful backline movement going and if he passed a score was a certainty, but then he holds on, the opp tackles him and more than anything get turnover ball..
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 104) : If he could learn to offload in the tackle ala SBW, it might work, as he draws quite a few defenders, but he doesn’t! Or can’t.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 104) : Saw him squander two tries because of this in the SR Sharks vs Bulls at Loftus. In my mind he cost the Bulls the game that day.
TONS OF RAIN predicted for saturday
@vanmartin (Comment 106) : exactly!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 104) :
Ice, I don’t know if you still remember that season when the Bulls began their domination of SA rugby. I think it was the season in which 19 year Derick Hougaard made a name for himself. Along the way they beat the Sharks, which enhanced our then label as chokers.
Anyway long story short, the Bulls centre partners were Tiaan Joubert and Dries Scholtz. I use to joke that Dries was the most inappropriately named player in SA rugby coz he wud never score a try – that was until he scored a crucial try against us. Anyway I’m sidetracking again. Back to my point: I could swear they must have set a Currie Cup record for fewest passes ever made by 1st choice centres of a CC winning team. It was ridiculous. At about midway thru the season I started counting and about 5 games these guys made a combined total of less than 10 passes.
Part and parcel of Bulls rugby is a 12 that hangs onto the ball. Wynand has bashed his way over many and advantage line and breached many top notch defences in his time by using that same seemingly brain-dead blinkers on tactic
@Franshark (Comment 107) : I’m going to cricket on Friday. What’s your weather prediction for then?
@beet (Comment 110) : not mine but their is rain in the air
@beet (Comment 110) : if the final was in durb I would have gone for both
blerry WP
@beet (Comment 109) : well if it works its works, but if its costing u points, do something else! Its not working anymore IMO – oppos knows what to expect and counter the moves.
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 92) :
Whats up is the Joburg air getting to you …
Nice weather we having
Come Sat only one winner ..and Deservedly so..
Whats happened a year or even 2 and in our case alot of years before this season actually has no bearing on whether we (Lions ) deserve it ..
Didn’t hear to many Sharks fans complain when they the shocked all and sundary in the 90′s.
That instant success has lead to many a new Shark fan ..did they deserve it given their record over the past 4 or 20 years ..
Just saying
@Franshark (Comment 111) :
Its building and threatening thus far ..just hope it will rain and get it over with before Sat ..also some hectic hail storms going around ..
Good on yer, Ice. I’m with you all the way. At the press conference today I must say the Lions were cool, calm, and collected. They seem well prepared and ready for battle. This is not the Hawera Cup, this is… SPARTA… !
BTW, Lions fans, Josh Strauss says he has no plans for his beard after the final, but that he may fall victim to being blindsided by Derick Minnie with his clippers…
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 114) : I think ur missing my point!
@SharonvanWyk (Comment 116) : hey sugar
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 114) : if they win, they deserve it, when we win we deserve it…
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 117) :
I get it ..time to rally the troops
@Megatron (Comment 118) : Megsie… howzit hon?
@ICE… Spot on!!! In my office we are about 33 people, of which only 6/7 are sharks supporters… The rest is (was) a split between the other unions. Now this seemed to change. We are still 6 Sharks supporters. But now there are 27 Lions supporters all of a sudden.
But each time a comment is thrown towards me, i just “smile and wave”
I sort of get the feeling that there will be $#!T loads of black and white on that stadium… And I will be one of them!
@SharksRTB (Comment 123) : so do I – there are a LOT of Sharks in Gauteng!
Unfortunately I’ll be watching on TV as I am out of town this weekend!
Good morning Ice! Well-written article, thank you for that! Cannot wait for Saturday-have been displaying my Sharks-gear here in Cape Town this whole week…and no matter what, I will be a Sharks fan until my dying day…it is just absolutely good to belong to the Sharks-clan. This Currie Cup belongs in Durban, no matter what is said. Have a good day!
@Anneleen (Comment 125) : Thanks Anneleen! Hope u are well!
@SharksRTB (Comment 123) : I hope you`re right. My lions friend wants me to believe there`ll be 70 000 Lions supporters LOL
I think he`s in for a nasty surprise!
@Original Pierre (Comment 127) :
all the Sahrks depositing money into the Lions account !!!!
DA DA DAAAA im loving it
@Zibbie (Comment 128) : all in the name of the game! Would u rather sit with an empty stadium….again?
@Ice Bokkie (Comment 126)…doing just fine, thank you! Being a Sharks supporter just puts that extra spring in one’s step! Hope you receive lots of feedback on your article…enjoy the build-up to Saturday’s game!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 129) :
no no not at all .. your much better than the bunch for the Cape …..
@Original Pierre (Comment 127) : Especially since the official FIFA numbers list the capacity at 62000. Have they upgraded since the SWC?
@Zibbie (Comment 128) : We like contibuting to those in need of some extra funds. Very charitible bunch us Sharks fans.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 133) :
indeed ! such a bunch of nice people !!! going to be hard to see all the sad faces on Saturday after the match
@Zibbie (Comment 134) : U mean there is actually gonna be Lions. Supporters at the game??
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 135) :
SURE quality over quantity
@Zibbie (Comment 136) : I guess its gonna be quality tears too!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 137) :
Tears of Joy !!!!!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 137) : Quantity tears works just as well
@Zibbie (Comment 138) : Why would you be happy about losing?
@Zibbie (Comment 138) : Or will that tears of joy be because you’ve won FL? Remember you can’t have it both ways
@JarsonX (Comment 140) : because he hates change??
@JarsonX (Comment 141) :
hahah
its not over until it is over
First prize would be FL AND Lions CC champs …
im going for gold !!!!!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 142) :
@Zibbie (Comment 128) : cause we take the winners check, who care about gate fees
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 142) :
indeed .. practicing my victory speech and i would hate to change it
was still in the running for LMS as well
you guys might get robed by a Lions
@Franshark (Comment 145) :
but … what if you dont
@Zibbie (Comment 147) : that haven’t crossed my mind … Yet
@Franshark (Comment 148) :
that’s what Province said as well …
I have to compliment all you shark bloggers. The other provinces are way behind on blogging.
If the sharks could have played the way you are blogging they would have been unbeatable.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 150) : Thanks!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 151) : Thanks… I think
@Bloubloubul (Comment 151) :
@Bloubloubul (Comment 150) : @Bloubloubul (Comment 151) :
@Bloubloubul (Comment 150) : It’s an addiction!
@Bloubloubul (Comment 150) : @Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 155) : It’s an addiction… like stopping for a Wimpy coffee on the way to work!
Ok, too many comments for me to read, so here is my 2 cents:
Remember a while back when everyone was against the Bulls because of their arrogant supporters? Same now with you guys
@Culling Song (Comment 156) : TG there is no Wimpy on my way to work!
@Culling Song (Comment 156) :
@molly (Comment 157) : Arrogant? Where?
Huge difference between arrogant and confident.
Wait, I still don’t see the arrogance in my piece…??
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 158) : there’s one on bloubloubul’s road
@molly (Comment 157) : well that sounds like “a-team-not-in-it-anymore” talk
@Franshark (Comment 162) : ice cold
@Franshark (Comment 162) :
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 160) : actually, there is a fine line between arrogance and confidence.
Where did I say there was arrogance in your piece, I was just commenting on why you guys might feel like its you vs the world.
@Franshark (Comment 162) : haha, thank you for proving my point for me, you’re too kind
@molly (Comment 166) :
You can always be counted upon to post something if Vermeulen is mentioned or the Sharks can be sniped at.
Arrogant? I’m actually pleasantly surprised at how few Sharks fans are braying about how we are going to whip the Lions (which is often a naïve call heard in the past). This entire article was in fact inspired by a lack of fire in the belly of the average Sharks fan. Ask the Lions fans here how arrogant we have been.
Perhaps a bit of transference transpiring there mooly.
@molly (Comment 165) : u did say too many comments too read, so naturally I assumed you read the piece and then gave your 2c worth..
@Big Fish (Comment 167) : excuse me? I hardly snipe at the sharks, that’s a bit of a ridiculous statement.
As for Vermeulen, yup, I do do that, no denying.
There are a few comments about the sharks taking it by 20, and all the comments in the past about it being a watered down comp? Does that even matter now that you’re in the finals? You guys still need to travel afterall
@Big Fish (Comment 167) : what I see that was happening on this thread is a bit of opposition bantering – with the use of smileys to portray the “fun” element and “joking” element. Also not arrogance imo.
@molly (Comment 169) : I thought u were referring to what’s happening currently – now that we are in the finals.
What is it with WP supporters like Mols and Wes always having to refer to past events? Its just confusing!!
Sharks supporters arrogant…….NEVER!!
Sharks by 40!!!
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 171) :
And
@Pokkel (Comment 172) : double
@molly (Comment 169) : Can guarantee you that I’m not arrogant, I’m freaking nervous
@Pokkel (Comment 172) : Alistair Coetzee and John Plumtree are in a car when a truck smashes into it, killing them on the spot.
At the pearly gates, St. Peter shows Alistair to his house, a modest, three-bedroom affair decked out in blue and white stripes. Next door, towering over the house is a veritable mansion of a house bedecked in black and white bunting, banners, flags and all manner of Sharks paraphernalia.
Alistair, highly outraged, demands to know why John Plumtree is awarded such a magnificent abode when he is given such a humble house. To which St. Peter replies: “Oh, that’s not John’s house, it’s God’s!”
@JarsonX (Comment 174) : With that said, Molly. Jealous much?
@Culling Song (Comment 175) :
Edit quickly and change Alister to John in the first sentence
@Culling Song (Comment 175) :
Whose turn is it to write an article on geting the Shark fans up and vocal …
Sharks vs ….The World
Most Shark fans on here that I know are stand up supporters and very rarely are arrogant.
That excludes you KSA
@molly (Comment 169) :
I stand by my call: the blog archives are here for anyone to peruse.
I have said all season that the CC was watered-down and that I cared more about player development. That is still the case. Seeing the likes of Joubert and Oupa in midfield still concerns me, and my comments bear that out.
I will celebrate IF the Sharks win the CC, and cherish it because we made the semis without our Boks, and beat the Cheetahs and Lions in the knock-outs, even though they had few disruptions all season.
But that doesn’t change the fact that the fact that the Bulls were hamstrung all season. Of course, WP lost last week despite having all their Boks back…
@Pokkel (Comment 177) : ..er…what? Ek verstaan nie…
@Big Fish (Comment 180) :
And imo alot of the Unions achieved some degree of player development ..Think Province were the big winners here ..their depth was truely tested and made a semi. As is the case with the Sharks barring the whole centre issues.
Even the Bulls unearthed a few players for the future.
@Culling Song (Comment 156) : Ja I missed it for these last few weeks but back to normal again. Just scared getting to attaced to you guys.
@Big Fish (Comment 180) : I’m with you on this one; I said midway through the season that we could still go on to win the CC, but while I would celebrate such an achievement, I would still view the season as a whole as a failure if we did not address our shortcomings with a view to the Super 15. Earlier this week I committed to withholding criticism until after the final, so for now, this dude abides…
You already are
Before you know it you’ll be wearing the Black & White with pride
@Culling Song (Comment 181) :
You should have changed last year’s joke from Alister to Mitchell….too late now!
The only supporters that can affort to be arrogant is us.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 187) :
I guess the titles over the last few years give you guys some real weight.
And personally, I don’t see the Bulls falling down cos of the loss of the Golden Generation of players.
You will not be as good, but you will still be a force to be reckoned with – the Bulls are now used to winning the key games.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 187) : how many knock out games did you guys win in 2011?
Or play in?…
@robdylan (Comment 189) : Next question?
@Bloubloubul (Comment 190) : hahahahaha!
@CSB Win it for Jannie Breedt ! (Comment 179) :
@Bloubloubul (Comment 183) : This is not so much a blog as it is a recruiting tool for Sharks supporters.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 193) : Do you know that song “To dream the impossible dream”? Well look at my photo and sing it.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 194) : I’m on a phone so can’t see your photo.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 194) : @KSA Shark © (Comment 195) : For some reason, when I see the photo, I want to sing Y M C A… Not sure why that is?
@Culling Song (Comment 196) :
Camp David is just down the road from Loftus…
@Culling Song (Comment 196) :
Ouch!
@Big Fish (Comment 197) : @Pokkel (Comment 198) : I’ll have to keep an eagle eye on my Wimpy coffee tomorrow; never know if Bloubloubul is the vindictive type, and what he might do to my morning kickstart…
@Culling Song (Comment 199) :
Versigtig….netnou is daai koffie fo**en giftig!
@Culling Song (Comment 196) : Ek was lanklaas so op my plek gesit.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 201) : Dis wat jy kry as jy mooi Duitse motors so verinneweer met lelike blou plakkers…
@Culling Song (Comment 202) :

@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 203) : Ek weet, dis skokkend!!!
@Culling Song (Comment 204) : Ok enough is enough, go pick on someone els. Maby some lion supporters.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 205) : Can’t. They outnumber us right now.
@Bloubloubul (Comment 205) : hahahahahahaha!!!
Does anyone know of the tickets that was available from the Sharks office was sold out?
@Ice Ice Bokkie (Comment 208) : They still had this morning when I was there. Just drop an email to dawn@natal-sharks.co.za and ask…
@Greg (Comment 209) : Just trying to figure out if the Sharks from Durbs are coming in hoards or not!!
