Getting to know you

We’ve done this before, but since we’re getting new members all the time, it’s a good idea to have another round…

So, welcome to Sharksworld everyone, old and new! We know some of you very well, of course, having been friends for years, but others of you we’re just getting to know. So let’s break the ice with a few questions… We’ll make this very quick. Only answer those that you want to.

Also, if anyone has any questions about how things work at Sharksworld, or any history that you may have missed, ask away!

1) When and where were you born?
2) Where do you live now?
3) Who do you support?
4) Boy or girl?
5) Where did you go to school?
6) How did you find your way here?
7) Any kids (or grandkids)?
8) Give us one random fact about yourself…

For those interested, you can find some info about some of the older bloggers on this post

One thing I learnt is Bullying tactics will always come back to haunt you. WPRU can count themselves lucky to even get the Argentina match.

  • @bergshark (Comment 131) : the Story goes that Saracens delt directly with the City of Cape Town. They got permission from the IRB and SARU, which WPRU are part of. They announced last week formally that the match will be played at CT stadium in January next year.

WPRU from what I hear were under pressure from their suite owners when ticket sales for the match started to rise. They also probably didn’t want 50 000 WP Fans singing CT Stadium jou lekker Ding. So they pulled out a draconian law in SARU’s constitution & then cameout and said Newlands ( or Oldlands_as I like to refer to it) is the home of rugby. They said they looking out for their suite and season ticket holders. To tell you the truth it seemed like it was all about politics and greed.

So Basically WPRU tried to bully their way to get a few bucks and show the city of cape town the middle figure but it backfired horrendously

So much that we’ve already taken from league and intro’d into union already.

The commentator Stuart Barnes enhances every rugby viewing experience as far as I’m concerned. He talked up McAllister’s ability to put the right amt of weight on his kick out of hand. The flyhalf played his part in proving Barnes right.

You’ll quickly realise how far we still have to go in this country to providing fans with meaningful technical info. The sad thing is we have talented people in this country who could do us proud but coz they don’t have a Bok cap, they’re not qualified enough to sit behind a mic or in a studio, in the eyes of the SS execs.

It’s an incredible hard feat to achieve but Greenbay are giving themselves the best possible chance.
Also remember that if you top the conference, you get home ground adv in the div and conference playoff games. Greenbay gets awfully cold by then and they have an outdoor stadium, so any team not use to the extreme cold or playing outdoors in snowy type weather is bound to suffer defeat against them.

  • @beet (Comment 230) : I wouldn’t say Xbox is better than PS3. I think its more a case of personal choice. Xbox is relatively cheaper but PS3 has a built in Blu-ray player. Yes you can connect you pc and xbox and share pictures, videos, music etc. Never done it though.

Hard to say why I prefer Xbox. But I do think an xbox remote is far more comfortable and fun when you have it in your hands. :)

a girl was sitting on the field of play, instead of outside the side line, and I was running on the wing…looked inside for the pass, when I looked back I had to jump. First point of contact when landing was my right shoulder.

I was playing with one of my sharks jerseys, and still wearing it when I had to go in for the operation to have the pins inserted. The doc wanted to cut off my jersey, but I told him, once I’m under I don’t care how you twist my shoulder, my you’re not cutting this jersey

  • @JJR (Comment 289) : Lucky and made of rubber. I used to be the same, although I didn’t get into that many situations where it would be a possibility. Didn’t really do the bike thing. My hand was my first and only break soon after I turned 30. Was sprinting across the field to make a cover touch, just i got within range with my hand stretched out, he stopped to step someone else and my extended hand just crashed into his back. Didn’t think it was broken until the wife convinced me to get it x-rayed!

  • @Gaff (Comment 291) : Im not rubber either…i am seriously unflexible…maybe reason why i have had lots of strained muscles, achilles problems and a torn quad muscle, but actually the last 2 years i have only had a stiff quad once and had a dead leg and forearm once or twice. Forearm looked huge!!

  • @Loosehead (Comment 357) : No. He was the Aussie import that played fullback for House back in 1991. When Dale Benkenstein got injured Harvey shifted to 10 where he played for Natal Schools at Craven Week. He was a special player at school. I just wondered what ever became of him. I think he went back to Aus in ’92.

  • The Freestate team of those years had many good player in it. Ollie / Os/ Johan Styger, Naka / Charl Marais, Piet Bester / Dougie Heymans, Ryno Opperman, Braam Els, Pote Human, Luther Bakkes, Andre Venter, Ruben Kruger, Hentie, Smiley, Jannie De Beer, Bredan Venter, Pieter Muller, Franco and MJ Smith [ who were both complete arseholes] the other names escape me.

Even at Varsity level there were some excellent players: Sean Baron, Bom Louw, Ewalt & Arno Bakkes, Arrie Van Rijswyk

I love rugby and played alongside or against many of the Freestate players who were poached by the Sharks. Some of them even went on to become Boks.

But you went to MH? So does that mean you are continuing the typical FS trend of claiming a player as a free Stater if he just happened to drive through FS on one occasion?
