This is it…. its final time. Friday the 9th of December 2011 @ 15h00(SA time) the two top teams in this year’s 1 day cup are heading to Sahara Park Newlands, Cape Town where they will be competing for the winner’s trophy. The Cape Cobras have earned the honors to host the Warriors from the Eastern Cape by ending up on top of the log after the ten rounds of thrilling cricket. The Warriors qualified for the final beating the Knights with a stunning performance by Ingram scoring a very important 100(112 form 111 balls) in a quarter final.

Not many points are on offer for the Super Bru’s and here is the standings as it at the moment:
1 BLOU BLOU BUL 25.60
2 Prishern 24.50
3 maritzburgshark 24.17
4 LouisV 24.05
5 Benna08 23.40

A Pietersen(Lions) and M de Lange(Titans) has been included in the Proteas group that is playing against Sri Lanka from the 15th of this month. Both these players did perform very well using their chances to prove their worth to SA cricket.

The top 5 bowlers: Wickets and averages
D du Preez 19 23.21
(Knights)
M Ntini 17 22.23
(Warriors)
CK Langeveldt 17 23.58
(Cape Cobras)
M de Lange 15 20.33
(Titans)
WD Parnell 14 30.50
(Warriors)

De Lange had an outstanding tournament to give him a chance to shine in Green and Gold. He is the only uncapped player in the SA Squad with him and Pietersen added to the 11 players doing duty against Australia making up the 13 man squad for the first test against Sri lanka. Meaning JP Dumminy is not going to get a chance to regain his spot in the starting 11.

The top batsmen: Runs and Averages
D Elgar 567 85.64
(Knights)
F du Plessis 544 91.27
(Titans)
CA Ingram 505 94.74
(Warriors)
ND McKenzie 455 91.00
(Lions)
A Jacobs 438 82.33
(Warriors)

JP Duminy scored 217 runs @ an average of 72.33 and also took 5 wicket @ an average off 39.00

Sri Lanka is playing a warm up 3 day game against an SA invitational team over the coming weekend from Friday to Sunday. The squad to take on the visitors:
South African Invitation XI: Thami Tsolekile (bizhub Highveld Lions, capt), Temba Bavuma (bizhub Highveld Lions), Farhaan Behardien (Nashua Titans), Dean Elgar (Chevrolet Knights), Paul Harris (Nashua Titans), Reeza Hendricks (Chevrolet Knights), Pumelela Matshikwe (bizhub Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Chevrolet Knights), Stiaan van Zyl (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras), Hardus Viljoen (Nashua Titans), David Wiese (Nashua Titans).

  • Hope Harris can get a good few overs, always thought he was unfairly blamed for the drawn series against India last year. He is a defensive spin bowler that dries up the runs at one end while the strike bowlers attack from the other end. And he doesn’t have a bad average, he took over a 100 wickets already

  • Why not give Oupa McKenzie a run. He’s still in good form and has loads of experience

  • @Mutley (Comment 2) : I’ve never rated Harris. Poor bowler imo and on top of that he can’t field to save his life.

  • Anyway,it was a brilliant tournament- stand out moment for me was cecil afrika making some poor french player run backwards ,turning this way, that way, this way, that way,and then having to chase after cecil afrika as he sped past him on the inside to score under the posts. Excellent try..!
