South Africa’s Oregan Hoskins was elected to the post of IRB vice-chairman in Los Angeles last night, beating off the challenge of former Lions captain Bill Beaumonmt, who has held the post for the last four years.
Beaumont, who was also in the running for the chairmanship, lost that race too, with Frenchman Bernard Lapasset re-elected for another 4 years at the helm. Once the French incumbent had defeated Beaumont in the race for the top job, he then turned the knife by casting the deciding vote that saw Hoskins replace the Englishman as his deputy – two rounds of regular voting had been unable to split the candidates.
Hoskins will continue to operate as chairman of SARU in addition to his IRB work.

He will neglect one job, rather resign and bring back Loius Luyt
gm rob mate ,
i am sure you meant the last four years (4)??
BTW ran into Mark Richards at century city here in Cape Town yesterday, nice fella , sadly says he wont be returning to the Sharks again , it seems he is taken to 7′s very long term
@Mutley (Comment 1) : Forget Luyt…the master of the press conference and man manger supremo PDivvy is in need of a job-head of SARU…hey why not?
@SheldonK (Comment 3) :
Hoskins too indecisive for my liking,
but Luyt is backwards. He’d be one of the last who should take up the post again – besides being an old man. Would rather bring back that Nkanunu joker.
Not really, but yeah.
If Brian van Rooyen ever got the job again I’ll be crying myself to sleep until his reign of terror is over.
@hendrikp (Comment 4) : Isnt it a job requirement of a politician to be indecisive?
@hendrikp (Comment 5) :
ill join you if Divv ever coaches the Boks again …
@SheldonK (Comment 6) :
im not sure
@Zibbie (Comment 8) : U sounding like a good candidate..now can u say a lot of words without making a single point? and u must be able to master the use of the words “ummm” and “err”
@SheldonK (Comment 9) :
errrrrr . yes we need to go forward
ummm .. i feel its the way forward ..
New Zealand backed the wrong horse!
@sharks_lover (Comment 2) : Noooooooooooo!
he has to come back to the Sharks.
@Zibbie (Comment 10) : Id vote for u! haha
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 11) : Don’t worry, Hoskins isn’t strong enough to see the inbalance in NZ’s favour corrected.
@SheldonK (Comment 6)
Yeah good point.
: @Zibbie (Comment 7) :
Divvy ain’t heavy.
He’s not going to be reappointed, but heck if it were a straight pick between him and Straueli I’d be praying for Divvy
I’m sure the sharks have a new man in charge as well : hansard ?
I just hope he chooses the next SA coach for “purely rugby reasons” else its another four years of torture…
Harold Verster is jobless?!
The IRB want yes men he is clearly a yes man, who can’t stand up for himself or his union, look at the Sanzar set up as an example the Aussies ND Kiwis run the show and we say yes sir no sir 3 bags full sir!!
