Sharks fullback Louis Ludik has got the new year off to the worst possible start, picking up a nasty leg wound in a gym mishap this morning.
According to his twitter feed, Ludik slipped while doing box jumps and managed to slice a really ugly gash into his lower left leg. He spent a few hours in hospital eralier today getting the wound stitched up and is unlikely to be sporting a shaven legged look any time soon!
The good news is that we’ve had confirmation from Louis that the wound isn’t serious enough to keep him away from anything serious and he’ll join up with the rest of the squad when they reconvene on Thursday. He’ll not be allowed to run for a week, but other than that, there shouldn’t be any lasting damage.

That was a close shave.
I’m sure Ludik still has aspirations to play for the Boks one day and now he’s faced with possibly the biggest challenge in terms of making the matchday 22, of his career to date. He must be more determined than ever to prove his worth and even a little setback like this is going to frustrate the hell out of him (I’m sure)

@Richard Ferguson (Comment 12) :
Also Lambie, Pietersen, Hoffman and Ndungane have all played fullback at some stage during their careers.
@beet (Comment 15) :
I didn’t want to touch the ‘Lambie at fullback’ debate until we were all really into the swing of things.
Compliments of the season to you beet, let’s make it a good year for School Boy Rugby on the site!
