Here’s a reminder to all Durban-based sports fans – tickets for the much anticipated Pick’n'Pay Durban Challenge Clash of Kings go on sale on Monday 9 January.
Hang on – wait up a second, you say. The WHAT? Just in case you may have missed the announcement during December, the Sharks have agreed to take on the KZN Dolphins in a unique Pro20 cricket match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on 22 January. Sharks skipper Keegan Daniel has taken up the challenge posed by Dolphins counterpart Darren Smit and will lead a hand-picked group of the finest Sharks cricketers onto the field of play to do battle – against the odds – with a bunch of blokes for whom cricket is a professions, rather than just a hobby.
There’s still reason for the intrepid Sharks to feel confident, of course, with many of the side having played a fair bit of competitive cricket in their younger years. Pat Lambie, for instance, was a formidable attacking batsmen whilst at Michaelhouse and if I were the Dolphins batsmen, I certainly wouldn’t relish the thought of facing any scorching deliveries delivered by the likes of JP Pietersen or Ross Skeate!
All-in-all, it’s going to be a great day’s entertainment and highly recommended for anyone who has an interest in either (or both) of the two codes. Particularly in these rugby-starved times, any opportunity to see the Sharks team in action – even if it’s not going to be in a rugby match – is one to be relished.

This should be interesting….I wish I could go
Should be a good match, seeing as the Dolphins are reasonably kak.
I might just pop by..
Lets do everything The Stormers do
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 3) : As jy kak soek dan sal ek daai foto soek en vir almal wys, né! Watch it!
@Pokkel (Comment 4) :
Is this how they are going to be making the extra funds from playing at home??
Let’s play some cricket, rather than playing warm up matches in the Cape!
Damn, I won’t be in SA yet…
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) :
Reasonably? You are being awfully generous.
I wish I could watch this – hope someone will be there to post updates.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) : Is it going to be on TV?
@Big Fish (Comment 8) :
I’m glad you picked up on that sarcasm..
I will try get there to get back into report writing mode…
@lostfish (Comment 9) :
I highly doubt that..
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 11) : I would’ve liked to see the Sharks beat the Dolphins
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 3) : Actually I believe the Bulls played against the Titans before the Stormers played the Cobras (if I recall correctly). Google is not being very helpful.
If you go to the cricket at Kingsmead don’t expect to see 3rd umpire decision replays on the medium size screen or the no. of balls faced by batsmen on the scoreboard.
I’m so relieved I’m not a cricket fan. I found these missing basics really frustrating when watching the Proteas vs Aus.
If the Dolphins lose they may as well all retire immediately.
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 3) : This has been a semi regular event since waaaaaayyyyyy back when Errol Stewart and Jeremy Thomson used to anchor the Sharks Cricket side.
Wish I was in RSA for this. I went to one of these back in the day.
@vanmartin (Comment 13) : And The Sharks were doing this in the 90s already.
