This week we have seen team announcements and friendlies being discussed, but there has been the distinct lack of anything from the Sharks squad, who will only play two official warm up matches, and an internal trial match.
Mumblings from within the squad as well as a few quotes from John Plumtree suggest that the Sharks focused on fitness, and this is the fittest squad the Sharks have had in years. For those fans that are based in Durban, you will know how hot it has been, and these guys have been training and running in this for weeks, so we can expect them to be pretty fit.
The first action we as supporters will be able to see will be on Friday 10 February, when the Sharks host Boland at Mr Price Kings Park, with tickets going on sale on the Wednesday before the match, ata mere R20 a piece, this might be a good first glance at the team.
The weekend thereafter they will be heading down to Port Elizabeth to face the EP Kings, wrapping up their preparations ahead of the first SupeRugby match against the Bulls, 25 February.
Sharksrugby has also reported that Willem Alberts has started running this week, with Jean Deysel continually building his leg strength ahead of the season, so this is positive from our two big loose forwards. No other new injuries or niggles have been reported.

Like!
As far as it goes about preseason ongoings, I haven’t felt this exited before, after the worries from the little signings that was made and the “groot trek” of players leaving I just feel good about thing coming together now…
I quite feel like Jack…..
You know, that guy sitting inside a box on a spring waiting for someone to press the button…
Sharks should be the best side in SA seeing as they have the most continuity from last season. Their only weakness is still their midfield combinations
I do prefer the quiteness rather than news of injuries and concerns. Hopefully we come out firing this year. If we can get 2 wins on the road before returning to Kings Park that would be awesome considering the opposition. Get the Sharks off to a good start.
@Viking (Comment 5) : Those first two games are going to be tough. We have to come out of the blocks well.
@Mutley (Comment 4) : agreed the weakness is midfield. Think we will come short at 9 as well.
Will Whitehead and Jordaan get a chance, anyone?
Kockett wanted to return, what is the latest there?
@Reynier Jacobs (Comment 7) : It seems Kockott is staying in France.
@war1 (Comment 8) : Pity but Thanx.
Who is backup to Charl now that Hoffman is injured? is it Reinach?
@war1 (Comment 6) : I hear you. But both teams has had a lot of changes since last season and would need some time to gel. At least the Sharks are more settled and hopefully it will help us to see the games through.
@Reynier Jacobs (Comment 9) : Reinach and Fred
Fitness is great, but what about handling?
@robdylan (Comment 11) : @robdylan (Comment 11) : Thx Rob,and how do you rate them?
what is your thoughts on the midfield?
IMO go for youth, Whitehead and Jordaan.
Get a young backline,Lamdie,Jordaan,Whitehead,Mvovo,JPP.
Think Viljoen will bring a bit flair.
@Reynier Jacobs (Comment 13) : think u have the order a bit wrong but the idea is good with viljoen at fb
@Reynier Jacobs (Comment 9) : Fred Michalak covers 9 and 10.
My only worry with this is, while the side may be superfit, will we not be a bit underdone on the playing field, nothing hones the skills like actual game time, would have preferred a game against one of the stronger teams…
Not bad:
9. Charl/Hoff
10. Lambie/Freddie
11. Mvovo
12. Jordan/Bosman
13. JPP/Whitehead
14. Odwa/Sithole
15. Viljoen/Ludik
Correct, Marius can join the squad when Freddie leaves.
@JarsonX (Comment 12) : Pah! You can’t handle in Durban in February… remember?
@GreatSharksays (Comment 17) : let’s see how m joubert does this year.
And I’d like to see mjekevu in the sr squad.
