Love is in the air in Durban, it seems, with one of the Sharks’ front-row stalwarts set to take things to the next level a week from tomorrow.
“Young Doctors in Love”, for those with long memories, was a spoof movie in the mould of “Airplane” that came out in 1982, quite coincidentally also the year that one Jan Nathaniel du Plessis was born in Bethlehem – the one in the Free State, mind, making it somewhat unlikely that three wise men were present. Jannie, as he is now known, is renowned for juggling his work as a medical doctor with propping up right hand side of the Sharks scrum but it was while doing his rounds in Durban’s hospitals that he met fiancee Ronel Malherbe, also a doctor, who will become Mrs Du Plessis next Saturday.
The lucky lady certainly does have something special, since Jannie himself has been known to describe himself and younger brother Bismarck as an “old married couple”, even going so far as to reveal that the fiery hooker tucks him into bed at night! For Jannie, at least, the love of a good woman has proved a stronger lure and I’m sure the happy couple have spent many long nights pondering exactly who will get to look after Bismarck once the two of them move in together!
With very few rugby-free Saturdays on the calendar for 2012, the couple seem to have picked a pretty good date to tie the knot, even though their plans do coincide with a yet-to-be-confirmed Sharks trial match next weekend. That said, following the departure of Eugene van Staden, Jannie is completely assured of the starting tighthead berth anyway, making it likely that he’ll be spared the indignity of messing up his hair just before tying the knot.
Sharksworld would like to congratulate Jannie and Ronel on their upcoming nuptials and wish them nothing but health, happiness and much prosperity as they start their new life together.

Wishing Jannie and Ronel a beautiful day with no incidents…seems like disgruntled residence of Clarens wants to use the wedding (which is said to be having about 600 guest, including Heyneke Meyer et al) to have more publicity over some political issue. (sorry Rob) – just think it”s sad if this indeed happens..
