Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has named his side to face the Stormers in a pre-Super Rugby warm-up match on Saturday.

The backline is unchanged from the unit that stuttered to a scrappy win over the Kings last weekend, with teenage sensation Johan Goosen retained at flyhalf ahead of Sias Ebersohn.

In the pack, though, a number of changes have been made, with Davon Raubenheimer switching to number 8 to replace Ash Johnson, who drops to the bench. Hein Brussow continues at open side with Philip van der Walt moving into the number 7 jersey. At lock , Andries Ferreira comes into the number 4 jersey to stake his claim for Super Rugby selection, while WP Nel is again fit and takes over from Trevor Nyakane at tight head prop.

The side is again led by hooker Adriaan Strauss, with cousin Andries retained in the number 12 jersey.

Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Dusty Noble, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Rocco Jansen, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Piet van Zyl, 8 Davon Raubenheimer, 7 Philip van der Walt, 6 Heinrich Brussow, 5 Izak van der Westhuizen, 4 Andries Ferreira, 3 WP Nel, 2 Adriaan Strauss (captain), 1 Marcel van der Merwe.
Subs: 16 Lourens Adriaanse, 17 Ryno Barnes, 18 George Earle, 19 Ashley Johnson, 20 Marnus Hugo, 21 Sias Ebersohn, 22 Willie le Roux, 23 Philip Snyman, 24 Ryno Benjamin, 25 Francois Uys.

  • Trevor Nyakane has impressed me so far. Doesn’t look like a real powerhouse at all, but he is a really strong bugger.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 1) : yes, I remember being very impressed with him during the Currie Cup… in fact, after Chadwick had spent about an hour making thorough mincemeat of the thoroughly overrated Nel, it was young Trevor who came on to give the Cheetahs scrum some semblance of stability.

I hope Nel does go to play for Scotland. Will just make them easier to beat :)

  • Andries Ferreira will be a player of interest. Had a good rep as a Bulls junior but they let him go which suggests he wasn’t rated in Pretoria.
