During the course of the 2012 Super Rugby season we will see two new South African referee’s on the field, with Lourens van der Merwe and Stuart Berry being appointed as two of the five new referee’s to be introduced.

The other three are Mike Fraser (New Zealand), Angus Gardner and Andrew Lees (both Australian).

We should see Jaco Peyper in the not too distant future as well, after SANZAR Game Manager Lyndon Gray made special mention of the South African, and he will be monitored quite closely this year.

We wish these men all the best for the year, and we can only hope that they have a good, problem-free year.

  • I’m stoked for Stu… Louwrens is a disaster though!

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) :

Agree, I think he reffed Lions and Bulls and gave ridiculous amounts of penalties. He completely stifled the game and became the focal point of everything. Hope he has been doing some crash courses in refereeing and perhaps a trip to Specsavers would be in order too.

I think Peyper has it in him to be one of out better referees so hope he gets more time.
