The Stormers put in a brilliant second half performance to beat the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, after being held close at half time to only lead 12 – 10, running away with it at the end, finishing on 38 – 13.

Aplon opened the scoring for the visitors early in the game, with van Aswegen adding the two for an early seven point lead. The Kings hit back, leveling the score on the quarter mark, Norman Nelson dotting down and Oelschig converting from in front.

Siya Kolisi got his team back in the lead after breaking from a rolling maul, van Aswegen missing the conversion this time. Oelschig struck back with a penalty before half time, to keep in touch of things.

The second half was one way traffic though, as Nick Koster and Jean de Villiers scored within the opening 20 minutes to take the lead to 14 points. Joe Pieterson was instrumental in both tries, first adding the conversion for the Kolisi try, and then putting away de Villiers for his try.

The fullback was then put away by a busting-through-the-gap Bryan Habana, who released Pietersen to score a try and convert for a 31 – 13 scoreline. The scoring was completed by replacement flyhalf Burton Francis, whose try was also converted by Pieterson, who seems to be the goal kicking choice for the Cape based team.

Scorers:

Stormers (38):

Tries: Joe Pietersen, Jean de Villiers, Gio Aplon, Nick Koster, Siya Kolis, Burton Francis.

Conversions: Gary van Aswegen, Pietersen (3).

Kings (13):

Try: Norman Nelson.

Conversion: Falie Oelschig.

Penalties: Oelschig (2)

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 1) : On the positive side, they also recognised that Johan Gooseneck is the greatest rugby genius to have ever existed, for whom obtaining a Springbok jersey is merely a formality…

  • Oh God my head is killing me.
Stayed up to watch the Blitzbokke crush all who oppose them, and now it feels like Katy Perry is inside my head.
Anyway, well done to the Stormers for the win.

Shut up Katy Perry, I don’t care how much you kissed a girl and liked it!

  • The mighty kings lost, the ref must have cheated, there is no way a guaranteed Super rugby spot team can lose to the likes of the Stormers
