Brumbies coach Jake White has finally decided on his captain for the Super Rugby tournament, opting for Waratahs purchase Ben Mowen as his leader. Three vice captains were appointed in frontrankers Dan Palmer and Stephen Moore, as well as the versatile Pat McCabe.

Mowen will make his Brumbies debut when they take on the Western Force in the first weekend of action in the Super Rugby season. He has previously led the Australian U20 team as well as certain age group Waratahs teams.

White told reporters that Mowen has what he wants in a leader, and that new dynamics within the team will go a long way in improving from last year’s performance.

  • So the Waratahs imported a Brumbie (Rocky Elsom) and made him captain and at the same time the Brumbies imported a Waratah (Ben Mowen) and made him their captain.

  • I’m pretty sure the Brumbies will have an improved season. JW is a smart coach and his influence should be fairly immediate.
