The Sharks beat a Southern Kings team that showed improvement from previous weeks gone by, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Friday night.
As it was drizzling throughout the whole match both sides tried to adapt to playing conditions, playing with their forwards rather trying to play an expensive game.
The Sharks, known for their solid forward pack had some good resistance from the Kings, both packs had some good mauling up field, and some big hits by the forwards.
The Sharks always would’ve had the upper hand among the backs, with only Riaan Viljoen and Tim Whitehead not having the privilege to wear the Springbok jersey in a test.
The Sharks managed to score 2 tries in the 1st half through Odwa Ndungane and Ryan Kankowski, with the conversions both missed by Patrick Lambie.
In the second half the game opened up a bit with the Sharks running in 4 times behind the Kings goal line, Sharks had more opportunity to run the ball among the backs, and some good joining from the back by Viljoen.
Second half tries came through Riaan Viljoen, two from Keegan Daniel and the other one coming in the last minute by Paul Jordaan cutting straight through the Kings back line. Patrick Lambie convertied all 4.
Finale score 38-13
Overall it was a good performance in unfavorable conditions from the Durban team, much to look forward to from the youngsters and new signings.
