The last of the previews for the New Zealand teams, and in my opinion the team that will fill the bottom spot on the New Zealand conference, is the Hurricanes. The team has had a turbulent couple of months, with coaching changes and quite a few players that have left the franchise.
Having a look at the Hurricanes squad, there are not a lot of New Zealand internationals in there, with captain Conrad Smith and Cory Jane the backline stars, and Victor Vito the stand alone forward international. The stars that have left the franchise include Ma’a Nonu, Andrew Hore, Piri Weepu, Aaron Cruden and Hosea Gear.
The above, although a worry, could turn the team into a nothing to lose mind frame, and this is always dangerous. But I just cannot see them finishing in the top half of the overall log, and is almost certainly going to be the bottom New Zealand franchise.
There will still be a few youngsters coming through and will add to the excitement of watching Super Rugby, with Jack Lam and Beauden Barrett the standout players to keep an eye on this year. I have also heard good murmers about scrumhalf TJ Perenara, but I have not seen him in action as yet.
