The Cheetahs have named an experimental looking team to face the Lions this weekend, as Ashley Johnson will have to make his impact off the bench, and Tewis de Bruyn starts ahead of Piet van Zyl at scrumhalf.
The team will obviously be captained by Adriaan Strauss from the front row, being flanked by WP Nel and Trevor Nyakane. The only concern at this stage is the availability of Lappies Labuschagné, who injured himself in a Varsity Cup game on Monday night, and even though named to start, will be replaced by Philip van der Walt on the side of the scrum should he not pass a late fitness test.
There are also surprises in the back three, as Dusty Noble is preferred to Rayno Benjamin, with the latter not making the bench in favour of youngster Willie le Roux.
Should the entire bench be used, a total of 8 players will be making their Super Rugby debuts for the Cheetahs.
