England international Danny Cipriani will play his final season of Super Rugby for the Melbourne Rebels after he has signed to join the Sale Sharks after completion of the Super season.

Cipriani has signed a three year deal with the English Premiership club, after talks with interim England coach Stuart Lancaster got Cipriani interested in adding to his seven England caps. It is well known that Cipriani and previous England boss Martin Johnson did not see eye-to-eye.

Cipriani is not shy to be in the news after several incidents in his first season with the Rebels, eventually leading to a suspension for the player. He will hope to find form during this season and will have big name stars such as Kurtley Beale and James O’Connor to play alongside.

  • Stockport where Sale are based is an absolute sh*thole of a town. Cips will soon get bored there.

I think the Rebels will surprise a few this year. If they get some decent ball they have the backs to cause a degree of chaos.

Having O’Connor, Beale, Cooper Vuna and possibly Mark Gerrard? Along with Mortlock is a very good backline. Their problem as with most Auzzie sides will be the forwards.

As for Cipriani, I think he was managed very poorly by England. He started out at fullback and I think he should have been eased into the international environment at that position. Then when he was a bit more experienced he could have been played at 10. He has a Gavin Henson sort of temperament and couldnt cope with all the English overhyped press and comparisons with Johnny Wilkinson. He is still woefully inconsistent and maybe playing alongside O Connor will help his cause.

  • Lots of better flyhalves then Cipriani in England.

Ford looks to have potential. We all know Farrell is rated highly.

Why would they want a guy with a poor attitude, who doesn’t even bother tackling?

If I had to pick a ‘weaker’ side to really turn heads, it would be the Rebels.

Adding JOC & Beale will add a bit of know-how to that backline… a will to win.

And their forward pack is actually pretty decent. Guys like Ged Robinson & Jarrod Saffy are right up there.

  • Agree that he was badly managed but Cipriani didnt help himself. The lad got too involved in the playboy lifestyle that footballers imerse themselves in. Granted he has ‘liaised’with some lovely looking ladies but I just dont think he has the right attitude to be more of a success in international rugby. When he does move to Sale I guarantee we’ll be reading about on the front page of the Sun as opposed to the back page

  • I watched Cipriani represent Wasps at the age of 20. He was outstanding. So much potential and so little realised. At the time I thought he’d be England’s successor to the ever injured Jonny W. Didn’t happen. Danny bust his ankle, was out for ages and when he did comeback was made a fullback when he returned. Worst yet some 1D guy was playing FH.

  • @hendrikp (Comment 8) : Thats how he got his nickname DCWSWAM (Danny Cipriani who slept with a man) The “woman” in question was Larissa Summers who apparently started out life as Darren Pratt.

Interestingly I’ve got a photo of me standing next to Larissa Summers taken about 2 years ago
