Stirling Mortlock is set to miss the Rebels’ opening game of the Super Rugby season against the Waratahs on Friday, struggling with a calf injury that he suffered four weeks ago.
Good news for the Rebels is that new recruit Kurtley Beale has recovered from his hamstring strain and is likely to make his debut along with James O’Connor against the Tahs.
Another new recruit, Mitch Inman, is likely to fill Mortlock’s boots in the outside centre position, after having a good preseason with his new team.
The Rebels will also be without their first choice hooker Ged Robinson, who is battling with a calf injury.
