The Lions have announced their team to take on the Hurricanes on Friday night, with skipper Josh Strauss shifting to the side of the scrum to accommodate Warren Whiteley in the starting fifteen.

In a surprise move, coach John Mitchell has also named 22 year old Stephan Greeff in the second row, ahead of Hendrik Roodt, who seems to have to pass a fitness test to be able to take his spot on the bench.

Cobus Grobbelaar moves to the bench to accommodate the changes in the loose trio.

James Kamana drops to the bench while Michael Killian gets his first start of the season.

15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Doppies la Grange, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Michael Killian, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Warren Whiteley, 7 Joshua Strauss (captain), 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Stephan Greeff, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Callie Visagie, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg

Substitutes: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Marius Coetzer/Hendrik Roodt, 19 Cobus Grobbelaar, 20 Tian Meyer, 21 Butch James, 22 James Kamana / Lionel Mapoe

  • Good to see a LITTLE rotation other than the enforced change with Wikus being out.

  • Steve Walsh reffing, Lions could win by more than 10 if Jantjies has his kicking boots on again.

I might be jumping the gun a bit here, but I think this might be one of the easier games for the Lions this season..

  • Say bout you want about Mitchell but he sure gives players a fair go to get it right.

Sticking with Callie to start he obviously sees huge poential.

Thats my preffered backrow and we should take them in the forwards…

The backline is a very settled one and should we click we could come away with 5 points …

We’ll a win would be a start

There is no need to worry …Jeppe isn’t downtown Hillbrow … ;-)

Just be vigilante as one should be in most cities anywhere.

Depends what u consider near …but one doesn’t have to drive through it or close to t to get to jeppe …

As shanboi points out depends where he is staying.

It is normal middle class school…

  • @Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 14) : I can understand your stress, because he is going to be away from home, but don’t panic, jeppe boys is a reasonably good school, the type of people that would go there are pretty normal, and I am sure your boy will be as safe there as he is at home! While you don’t really know me, or my family, and some would hesitate to call me ‘Normal’, my niece goes to jeppe girls, and is surviving there!

Jeppe is actually quite far from hillbrow, and the centre of joburg, kind of durban central to ‘toti, maybe a bit further.

  • Stephan Greeff brought in to steady the lineouts according to Mitch ..a bit harsh it was mainly down to the Hooker …

But he goes on to mention that Roodt is not totally match fit yet.
