So, I have been called a “very kwaai Tannie” by some bloggers lately. But I also feel this needs to be said, although I might get some flack on wasting space on this forum!
First let me start of by saying: Congratulations on the fourth birthday of Sharksworld! Thanks to Rob and a few other admins for starting, what I would describe as an addiction…SharksWorld. You have done a tremendous job with this site, it’s informative, sometimes serious and sometimes hilarious – but there is hardly ever a dull moment! I DOUBT if there is any other blog that go to the lengths this one does, to keep rugby lovers like myself occupied during “off season”! Salute!
Okay, let’s get to the real reason for this little rant.
A few years back, I was in discussion with a certain (diva-ish)
individual, and I wrote “John Smith” in the convo. I got this reply: ” it’s T….SmiT”. My playful reply was “what is an “h” between friends? And the reply I got was something to the effect of “there is a HUGE difference, it is the guys NAME, it’s his PERSON it’s WHO he is, it’s ONLY your Springbok Captain, it’s ONLY your Sharks Captain. Have the RESPECT to get his name right.
Wind out of my sails…
But, as I am one of the few clever blondes, I have learned. Very quickly I have realised…he is 100% correct!
Perhaps this is the reason I am quite pedantic on the fact that it is Keegan Daniel and NOT DanielS…. It has been quite a joke, but in fact, it is also serious., It is the guys NAME, it’s his PERSON, it’s WHO he is, it’s his family history it’s ONLY your Sharks Captain.
We all claim to be “the biggest supporter”…. It would only be fair to show the necessary respect. We all KNOW the players, yet we cannot get the name right…I am not talking about an honest spelling mistake (let’s face it, some parents can be VERY adventurous where the spelling of names are concerned, but there’s a huge difference where someone’s surname, he’s FAMILY name is concerned.
Some of you might have realised that I am also getting sticky where first names are concerned. Perhaps it’s an age thing, but I think I have overtaken Rob with this…such as Marcell Coetzee…being spelled Marcel…Steven Sykes, being spelled Stephen – even by “big ” journo’s.
So I guess you know what my point is… RIGHT??
One last note on this – if you STILL don’t get it, hopefully this will stick…DanielS…that is a lovely drink I enjoy…as in Jack Daniels, while I sit with Daniel, my yorkshire terrier, named after only one of the most phenomenal players of all time, Daniel Carter,…whom you all know I simply LOVE, watching Sharks rugby…and it is the Family name of our Sharks Captain.

First things first: To Rob and the other Sharksworld admins – you guys rock! There is no other website I check as often as this one – even during the off-season. THANK YOU!
Ice, great article and while we’re flogging this particular horse I’d like to make my own contribution:
- Losing: Fail to win
- Loosing: Free from restraint, make loose or looser
- Loesing: ‘n Deeglike pakslae (commonly associated with the Force and Rebels)
Use it – don’t use it!
Happy 4th bday to SW! Awesome blog! Words can’t thank the people enough who keep this site up and running!
@vanmartin (Comment 1) : Another one. A “couch is something you sit on. A “coach” is the boss of the team.
@Ben (Comment 3) : Oh dear Lord, yes!
@vanmartin (Comment 4) : you just had me in stitches with that comment!
A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. I did not object to the object. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
The bandage was wound around the wound. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row. They were too close to the door to close it.
The buck does funny things when the does are present. They sent a sewer down to stitch the tear in the sewer line. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
The wind was too strong to wind the sail. After a number of injections my jaw got number. Upon seeing the tear in my clothes I shed a tear. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
I read it once and will read it again as I learned much from this learned treatise. I was content to note the content of the message. The Blessed Virgin blessed her. Blessed her richly. It’s a bit wicked to over-trim a short wicked candle. If he will absent himself we mark him absent. I incline toward bypassing the incline. So excuse me for a simple S as I drink Jack Daniels, don’t support Daniel even though I support Daniel (the fast Daniel) and do not follow the Daniel-fast. Sorry everyone!

Do I share my birthday with Sharksworld? Thank the heavens! The world has order again! (found out this morning I also share it with Justin ‘meisiekind se ipod hits’ Bieber). I would also like to appologise for starting the ‘very kwaai Tannie’ remarks. It was meant in good spirits.
I agree wholeheartedly with this post! It irritates the bejeebers out of me when someone misspells or mispronounces my surname (Mundell, correct pronounciation Mandell) haven’t met a person yet who could get both right on the first try.
Happy Birthday Sharksworld! And thank you kwaai:wink: tannie Ice for pointing out a few good facts
@Die Kriek (Comment 7) : Happy bday to you too.

Agree with you Ice, theres been all sorts of spelling of my surname – Mc Leod. Theres been Mc Loud, McCloud, McCloude, McLoed, also been pronounced as M C Loyd, Mac Loud, also Pierre being pronounced as Pierie and Piere.
We have named our girl Miya, and everyone is already spelling it Mia, theres a reason for Miya spelling – temple of ever increasing beauty.
But after a while you get use to it and can just laugh when you get those phone calls, “Can i please speak to Mr Pierie M C Loyd, or the other option is to say sorry wrong now.
