For those who have not been following the comments on the first wikipedia help article, we have come to some sort of conclusion that people need a starting point on what to provide information for.

So what we decided to do was submit regular articles, with specific players, not too many just three or so, and allow people to provide knowledge on those players, what we will also do is submit an article with a specific season, and allow people to give information on that season.

With this we will start with the 1st season the Sharks took part in Super Rugby which was 1993 in the Super 10.

I appeal to all Sharksworld members to provide as much information as they can, this can become very fun, seeing who has the most knowledge, and who is a true supporter.

  • At the Ukzn Durban vs Ukzn collegians match. Durban is getting totally outplayed. Some good individual plays though. Lots of talent here. Just wish they could come up with a better solution. . . Would do a whole lot of good to the Sharks youth structures

  • If I remember correctly, we won three of four matches that year.

The score way against Auckland in the 3rd match was 22-6 to them.

We beat Otago very well on tour… that match was interesting because Mac started the game with his reserve prop on the field (17) and only brought number 1 on at half time!

Other wins would have been against Queensland and Western Samoa…. both at Kings Park. Can’t say I remember those games too well. Actually, the Queensland game was Mark Andrews’ debut match… I remember Vlies Visagie scoring a beaut of a try in that game. As for the Samoa game, I think we won 54-10 or something like that. It was a big hiding.

  • @Die Kriek (Comment 4) : That should be available in the book “team of the 90′s” which chronicles each year from 1990 to 2000.

  • @Seth101 (Comment 7) : It is likely, a lot of proffesional teams got their colours that way in the old days! The Springboks are green because the first Bok team didn’t have jerseys, so the coach got the scool he was also coaching to lend their jerseys, green with a white collar, the white became gold, but the green remained

  • Know it has nothing to do with the sharks, but didn`t the Reds have a Border Collie who brought on the kicking tee for them?
He was called Damian.

  • @Seth101 (Comment 17) :

I don’t think anybody actually knows more than what Rob put in his comment.

You have to remember that at this stage, rugby was just announced as a professional sport, and many people who watched back then, if from the older crowd, are not really into the blogging scene.

We can expect the response to improve as the memories become clearer and we move closer to 21st century..

  • @Die Kriek (Comment 16) : I was thinking with the wiki page, we should create a hole new page, under the heading of something like “Sharks Rugby union” or something like that, then take info from both the super rugby and currie cup page, and combine them, we shouldn’t remove the other two pages yet.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 18) : yea I suppose your right there, I just don’t won’t to carry on with the history if people aren’t that interested, but what I can do is write up the first one with players and see what kind of reaction that gets.

The early 90s was a blur of parties on the outerfields. The most memorable thing for me is when my wallet got stolen out of my clothes while friends and I performed a striptease on KP8 for some girls late one Saturday night.
