The 2012 Vodacom Cup gets under way this weekend, with a number of teams already having been named for the first round.

Western Province take on Boland on Saturday, kicking off at Newlands at 4pm, in a game that should be well-supported given the lack of a Stormers fixture this weekend. A number of experienced Currie Cup player will be in action for both sides, with the selection of Kurt Coleman at fullback for Province an interesting one. Scrumhalf nic Groom will captain the side, which marks the return to competitive rugby for front ranker Schalk Ferreira, starting the game at loose head prop.

He’ll come up against former Lions strong man, Ross Geldenhuys, starting his first game for Boland in the number 3 jersey. The visitors will be led by Stormers veteran Bolla Conradie.

  • Is it just me but do the Cheetahs squad (Super rugby & Vodacom Cup) look very average overall? I mean they have the best rugby factory in the world on thier doorstep but the gap between school and senior level seems to be the problem. I think SARU should start to worry less about the EP Kings and concern themselves more about Shimlas and Free State rugby.

  • WP team looks decent. Didnt Wicus Blaauw player Super rugby a year or 2 ago? Hes fallen out of favour. Good to see Ricky Schroeder back of he bust his leg just before the start of the JWC last year. Also, where is Timo Swiel? Thought he’d be be playing VC rugby this

  • So I just saw the Sharks XV team,a couple lads coming home,Mtembu,Cloete,Sithole,Dell and two other idiots who are from the Border region, but did not finish school in the region. Gouws and Mjekevu. Queen’s College vs Hoerskool Grens as the curtainraiser, any of you can get a word in with Sharks guys who’ll be in EL,tell them that 9-10 pairing of Queen’s College. I’m definitely going down there
