Along with sourcing information on the Sharks past seasons, we are also looking for information on the younger players of the team, as most of the youngsters don’t yet have individual Wikipedia pages.

We are looking to change this by giving them a profile and a source of information on the page. While basic stuff like height and weight is helpful, we are looking more for personal achievements at school, provincial and national level, and back ground that gives the players personality and an overview of their career.

To give a bit of variety here are three youngsters from different positions who have all made an impact for the sharks. Please can you all help with information on:

Wiehahn Herbst

Marcell Coetzee

Paul Jordaan.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 4) : @Ben (Comment 5) :  I’m just a huge fan, i am the same with Deysel and Alberts, they the 3 best Sharks players in my eyes. So it sucks seeing a starting lineup without one of those 3 in it, so far this season :( In a month all 3 could be starting, would be sweet!

  • Marcell is originally from Hibberdene on the Lower South Coast and attended Suid-Natal Primere. There was an article about him in the local paper last year when he made the Sharks team for the first time.

  • @JJR (Comment 8) : @Ludz (Comment 11) : Next up we have the blindingly quick SA U21 and Blitzbok Sibusiso Sithole (I thought it would be good for him to learn what its like to be second for a change). The 20-year old stands in at a very respectable 1.78m and 90kg (Bryan Habana size), and tops the similarity with an EXPRESS 10.5 seconds for the 100 metres, just 0.1 seconds shy of the quickest (and unconfirmed) time I have heard attributed to Habana.

  • @Ludz (Comment 11) : Have you ever seen Jordaan at full speed? Guys who watched the Sevens when Paul and Sbura were both in it…Sithole actually looked slow compared to Jordaan…Jordaan also reeled in the guy that most calims is the fastest on the sevens circuit, Dan Norton. It was in the Las Vegas tournamnet last year which Blitzbokke won…i couldn’t believe it Jordaan came from like 10 metres back and from an angle and was able to catch him…that’s when i knew Jordaan was something special. Not only does he have a great step and a great eye for the gap; but he is bladdy fast, and as many Sharks players will tell you he is also benches a crazy amount for a 94kg backline player. And the guy has played 10, so he also has the brain for the game…he is a tealent i have ever seen to be honest, he has pretty much all the qualities and attributes a Rugby player could want. As long as he stays Humble, keeps feet on the ground and keeps working/training as hard as possible, he will no doubt have a very succesful Rugby career.

  • @Ben (Comment 13) : Yes, Sithole is great, i would like him to jump ahead of Ludik and Ndungane soon, it will happen eventually. But with JPP at 13 i really like Jordaan at 14, and then Jordaan and JPP can drift between the 2 positions depending on the current situation on the field…eg. Defence JPP at 13 and on Attack Jordaan at 13.

  • Sithole is quick. He was a provincial sprinter. He was running a 100m in 10.6/10.7s at U16 level. his running action is quite deceptive though compared to jordaan who takes very brisk paces when he runs. besides Jordaan and Sithole are very different. The other is an out and out specialist wing the other is a centre.klaar. I don’t know why his coaches played him at flyhalf.

  • Thank you for the wealth of responses so far! We can almost do a whole post on Jordaan and Sithole with all the info, now we just need Herbst and Coetzee

  • @McalisterBW (Comment 18) : Agree, Jordaan is a 13 and Sithole a wing…i do think at the time when i read that Jordaan was fastest in Sevens squad Sithole had just come back from a Knee injury, and i don’t think he was 100%.

Wish we could get some 40m and 100m times. I’m Sure Jordaan would win the 40m sprint(Jordaan a very explosive player); 100m could be any of Mvovo, Sithole or Jordaan…I think

  • @JJR (Comment 20) : I doubt Jordaan can beat 10.5. I could hardly believe that Sithole could put that time, and he is built like a sprinter – and getting bigger. Don’t let love blind you.

    @McalisterBW (Comment 18) :
Ja, that’s my info as well. Jordaan is very talented, but he looks a centre or even a FB, but not a 10.

  • @Seth101 (Comment 26) : I think what we need to do here is try to be accurate with caps and points as at the end of each season… then we can do an annual (or semi-annual) update, rather than trying to keep them up-to-date each week.

At the end of last year’s competitions, these players had the following:

    Super Rugby
    Coetzee 4 caps, 0 points
    Herbst 5 caps, 0 point
    Jordaan 0 caps, 0 points

Herbst earned one cap in 2010 and 4 in 2011. Coetzee earned 4 in 2011.

    Currie Cup

Coetzee 16 caps 5 points (all caps earned in 2011)
Herbst 28 caps 0 points (13 caps in 2011, 15 caps prior to 2011 but not sure of season split)
    Jordaan 0 caps, 0 points
