The weekend of Super Rugby wraps up, somewhat unusually, on a Sunday where the Melbourne Rebels host the Cheetahs, both teams desperately needing to get their campaign on some form of course.

The Rebels, who started the tournament with a bye, have struggled in both their games so far, and will hope that the move of James O’Connor to the 10 jersey will get their backline going. They are again without Kurtley Beale at the back, with Julian Huxley starting instead.

The Cheetahs will take heart from their match against the Brumbies last weekend, where they lead with minutes to play, and really impressed. The Rebels will be an entirely different challenge, and the kicking challenge between O’Connor and Goosen should be a good one.

Rebels: 1. Nic Henderson ,2 Adam Freier ,3. Laurie Weeks, 4. Luke Jones,, 5. Hugh Pyle (vc) , 6. Tim Davidson, 7. Tom Chamberlain, 8. Gareth Delve (c),9. Richard Kingi , 10. James O’Connor , 11. Cooper Vuna, 12. Lloyd Johansson, 13. Mark Gerrard, 14. Lachlan Mitchell, 15. Julian Huxley

Replacements : 16. Ged Robinson 17. Rodney Blake 18. Alister Campbell 19. Jarrod Saffy 20. Nick Phipps 21. Danny Cipriani 22. James Hilgendorf

Cheetahs: Hennie Daniller, Cameron Jacobs, Robert Ebersohn, Andries Strauss, Willie le Roux, Johan Goosen, Tewis de Bruyn, Philip van der Walt, Davon Raubenheimer, Heinrich Brussow, Izak van der Westhuizen, George Earle, WP Nel, Adriaan Strauss (captain), Coenie Oosthuizen.

Replacements: Hercu Liebenberg, Trevor Nyakane, Justin Downey, Ashley Johnson, Piet van Zyl, Sias Ebersohn, Rayno Benjamin.

LMS numbers after the completion of round 4.

    175 entered the game
    39 alive with a lifeline
    46 alive with no lifeline
    90 eliminated from the game

    2 milestones reached.
The number of players eliminated is greater than the number of player remaining.
The number of players with lost lifelines is greater than the number of players with lifelines intact.

Steyn gaan voortaan net binnesenter speel.

What would happen to Whitehead? He is playing very well, but Frans is even better.

Sharks should do everything they can to get Frans back to Sharks. Who knows he just may want to live in Durbs. Read during the world cup he was going to be marrying a Durban girl in June this year. That could sway him to play in Durban. Hoping….lol.

  • Till when is Steyn contracted too Racing Metro, wasn’t there speculation earlier, that was part of his agent plan to get him a even bigger salary from Racing Metro, so I assume he didn’t sign. :?:

  • @BR (Comment 82) : Until the end of this French season, sometime in May I believe. Plenty of time for him to still sign.

haha , i think its more an indication of ‘most likely’ than a ‘maybe’ . Or thats what the writer is trying to imply . IF its true .. who knows . i think the Lions can do with him as well .

Nowhere does he say he wants to win the Vodacom Cup.

I mean the referee did you guys a favor last week, handing the game to the Brumbies, but even with some strange calls this week – with Willie le Roux sent off for a handling error/intended intercept, and then penalized despite the opposition not being allowed a quick throw anyway – they still managed to pull off the win.

So yes, Cheetahs look well on their way to finishing at least 4th in the SA conference. No way SARU can justify dropping the Cheetahs if they finish above the Lions.

Also, it’d do a lot of damage to rugby in the region as well, which wouldn’t be good for the Springboks considering how many of the young stalwarts come from Bloem.

Lions next trophy will be Vodacom Cup 2013

  • I believe that 2012 is the 12th year since the Stormers has won any significant trophy. I might be wrong though.
