The suspension cloud hanging over the head of bad boy Digby Ioane looks to be but one of Ewan McKenzie’s woes as he tries to piece together a backline to face the Bulls at Loftus this weekend.
Ioane is widely expected to be handed a lengthy suspension for his heinous tip tackle on Marcell Coetzee, while a double injury whammy to flyhalves Ben Lucas and Mike Harris looks set to disrupt the backline even further. Both Harris and Lucas suffered hamstring injuries during the course of the Durban loss and without them, McKenzie will br scratching his head to try and find a goal-kicker, never mind filling the gaps in the line that their respective absences will cause.
Scrumhalf Will Genia ended up running at flyhalf for the latter portion of the Sharks match and also had to take over the goal-kicking duties, without much success.
McKenzie has the option to bring in Jono Lance or Dallan Murphy to play at flyhalf and kick at goal, while back-rower Radike Samo could shift to the wing – as he has done in the past – to fill in for Ioane.Tweet
